Pumpkin painting party

We welcome the harvest season at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, by decorating pumpkins. Just bring your creativity and wear clothes you can mess up. We’ll provide the acrylic paint and brushes. Once you’ve finished painting, come on inside. We’ll wait for our pumpkins to dry and watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” It’s going to be a fun fall morning. Call, sign up at the membership desk, or register online to reserve a pumpkin by Thursday, Oct. 4.

2019 Medicare changes

Back by popular demand. Join independen­t insurance agent Jeremy Janes at the library at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, for an educationa­l presentati­on on the 2019 changes to Medicare and how they will affect individual­s on Medicare.

Library closed

The library will be closed for staff and volunteer training on Monday, Oct. 8.

The Beast of Boggy Creek

Author and cryptozool­ogist Lyle Blackburn will be at the Bella Vista Public Library at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, to make a presentati­on about the Beast of Boggy Creek. The Boggy Creek Monster or the Fouke Monster has long dwelled around the southern Arkansas town of Fouke. The 1972 movie, “The Legend of Boggy Creek” cemented the creature in the public’s consciousn­ess. Blackburn has spent years researchin­g the creature and has written two books on the subject, as well as doing a documentar­y, which is available to stream through Amazon Prime. Books will be available for purchase, and the author will be signing copies of his books.

Dutch-oven cooking demo

Spend a beautiful fall morning at the library cooking up a delicious meal in a Dutch Oven. On Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., learn how to utilize a Dutch Oven in cooking amazing meals in the great outdoors. In this demo, we will whip up some easy and delicious breakfast casseroles, including a keto-friendly option, as well as a fabulous pineapple upsidedown cake. There is a supply fee of $5 which can be paid at the event. Please sign up at the front desk.

Christmas at Dickens Place

The library is now accepting vendor applicatio­ns for the 2018 Christmas at Dickens Place. If you are interested in selling your art and craft items or food at this event, please fill out a vendor applicatio­n. The event will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. Encore Books

The Friends of the Library’s used-book store is open six days a week during regular library hours, with everyday low pricing on hardbacks, DVDs, puzzles, children’s books, paperbacks, biographie­s, health and wellness topics and much more. All proceeds of this ongoing fundraiser support the library.

October’s displays are provided by a photograph­er of the Bella Vista Photograph­y Club, Shirley Sheets, also a patron of the Library.

Floral arrangemen­t

October’s floral arrangemen­t was designed and provided by Elaine Rooney of the Bella Vista Garden Club. Each month, a member of the Bella Vista Garden Club creates an original floral design to be displayed for patron enjoyment.
