Election of POA Board members

-

The election of BV POA board members is a critical endeavor and, as property owners, we should understand more about our candidates than just relying on their published bios. I’ve drafted a list of questions I would like answered and have sent these questions to each of the candidates for their response. I will be glad to share their responses as I receive them. Here are my questions:

1. What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Bella Vista and the Board?

2. Do you believe that $37 per month (improved lots) and $16 per month (unimproved lots) assessments are adequate to support our amenities?

3. It has been said that the last assessment vote where the unimproved lot owners had $0 increase in the fees was unfair and discriminating, how would you propose to increase unimproved lot owners’ fees when they outnumber the improved lot owners?

4. If the Board was able to modify the fee structures in the 2020 plan, what changes in fees would you recommend?

5. Revenue — the only source of revenue for the POA is golf fees, some lake fees, and assessments (maybe a few other small fees). How do you propose to increase the revenue of the POA to cover the shortfall in the budget other than increasing assessments?

6. Expenses — What areas of the budget would you reduce/cut to eliminate the shortfall in the budget and bring the budget to a break-even?

7. Do you support having five 18-hole golf courses and two 9-hole courses, or do you see a need to close any of them? If so, which ones?

8. Did you support the last assessment increase (voted yes)? If not, what were your reasons?

9. Transparency has been reported as a plank in their platform by all the candidates. Where do you see that the current board has not been transparent in its actions or release of information?

10. It has been reported that the board is not owner-oriented and they (board members) are only out for themselves. If you support this belief, what actions has the board taken that were not for the POA members’ benefit?

11. There has been an effort to influence this election with mail, postcards and phone calls in support of only three candidates. Do you believe the POA and board have been or are involved with this effort? Gary Mertz Bella Vista
