Lucile Frances (Buzzell) Aasmundsta­d

Lucile Frances (Buzzell) Aasmundsta­d, age 104, of Bella Vista,

Ark., died of natural causes on May 19, 2020. Lucile was born on a farm near Courtenay, North Dakota, on January 6, 1916, to Hattie E. (Nelson) and Frank R. Buzzell.

Lucile attended grade school at Corinne Consolidat­ed School and high school at Courtenay, N.D. She went on to attend college on scholarshi­p at Jamestown College, Jamestown, N.D. and graduated with a teaching degree in 1938. She was a teacher at the high schools in Coteau, Beulah, and Kloten, all in N.D. While teaching at Coteau she met and later married Palmer O. Aasmundsta­d on July 3, 1941.

In 1942 Palmer was drafted and served the duration of World War II, during which time they lived in Abilene, Texas, and Durham, N.C. After the war Lucile and Palmer lived in McCluskey, N.D. and in 1956 moved to Dickinson, N.D. Lucile was very active throughout her life in community and church affairs. She helped organize and was president of the Dickinson State University Faculty Wives. She also belonged to Eastern Star, P.E.O., American Legion Auxiliary, PTA, Delta Zeta Sorority, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and other organizati­ons.

While living in Dickinson Lucile raised five children. After her children were raised, she attended Dickinson State University, earning a second college degree, this time in library science. She was the school librarian at Taylor, N.D., High School, and later at Dickinson, N.D., High School.

After retiring in 1981 she and Palmer moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1986, where she enjoyed golf, hiking, aerobics, bridge, and library volunteer work. She was also active in Dacotah Club, AARP, Democratic Women, P.E.O., Piecemaker­s Quilters, and other groups in the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista.

Lucile loved to travel and was an avid reader and learner. She and her husband traveled to all 50 states, and nearly every national park, sometimes in an RV and often just car trips. Lucile traveled the world well into her 90s. She loved her cruises and visited many foreign countries on every continent except Australia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer Aasmundsta­d; her son, James Aasmundsta­d;

brothers, Burton and Howard Buzzell; and sister, Lorraine Newberry. She is survived by three sons and one daughter: son, Dr. John B. Aasmundsta­d of Chicago, Ill.; son, Mark Aasmundsta­d and wife Lynne Thomas of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; son, David Aasmundsta­d and wife Jane Ohl of Dickinson, N.D.; and daughter, Debra Aasmundsta­d of Fayettevil­le, Ark. Lucile had seven grandchild­ren, Kristin (Walsh), Mark David, Paul, Mike, Keri, Robyn Aasmundsta­d and Jakob Ohl. She had eight great-grandchild­ren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Morningsid­e Assisted Living of Fayettevil­le, Ark., for the loving care they gave Lucile during her last two and one-half years of life. We also wish to thank Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark., for their kind care during Lucile’s last two days of life.

Any local memorial service is suspended due to the 2020 pandemic. Eventual burial will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Mandan, N.D. Memoriams may be made to ULC Piecemaker­s, 100 Cooper Road, Bella Vista, AR 72715, the American Heart Associatio­n, or charity of one’s choice.

PAID OBITUARY

John Doublin

John “Mac” Doublin, 88, of Bella Vista, Ark., formerly of Dallas,

Texas, died Sunday, May 31, 2020.

He was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Tulsa, to Lavater and Lillian Doublin. He graduated in 1953 from The University of Arkansas, Fayettevil­le, after receiving an athletic scholarshi­p from Little Rock Junior College where he was a member of the Trojans’ 1949 undefeated football team. After graduation, he began a career in sales with Brockway Glass Company, meeting his wife, Beverly Kilpatrick, on a business trip to Memphis, Tenn. They raised their family in Dallas and moved to Bella Vista in 1994. He was a member of First United Methodist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister.

Survivors are his wife, Beverly; daughter, Kellye (Kevin); two grandchild­ren; and sister-in-law, Dorthea Doublin.

A graveside service was held Friday, June 5, at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Arkansas Animal Shelter and Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Ky.

Beverly A. Kluesner

Beverly A. Kluesner, 92, of Bella Vista, Ark., formerly of Dubuque,

Iowa, died Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

She was born March 26, 1928, in Dubuque to Albert and Marie (Basten) Dolan. She married B. Joseph (Joe) Kluesner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dubuque on Oct. 23, 1948. After retiring as Activity Director of Dubuque Healthcare, she enjoyed visiting family in Tulsa, Dallas, and Orange Park, Fla. They traveled around the world and visited nearly all 391 National Parks and Monuments. Many winters were spent in Desert Hot Springs, Calif., where she enjoyed golf.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Joe; daughter, Jean (Bill) Kochendorf­er; and siblings, Roger Dolan, Dory (Tom) Meyer, Albert (Nancy) Dolan, John (Shelia) Dolan and Dennis (Betty) Dolan.

Surviving are her children, Leanne Weber of Orange Park, Robert (Beverly) Kluesner of Bella Vista, Diane Richman of Tulsa, and Thomas Kluesner of Euless, Texas; nine grandchild­ren; sister, Jenny (James) Givens and brother, Robert Dolan both of Dubuque; brotherin-law, Al (Mary) Kluesner of Edna, Minn.; and sisterin-law, Grace Allen of Milwaukee, Wis.

Stephanne Peterson

Stephanne Peterson’s battle with dementia ended May 20, 2020, at Concordia Nursing Home in Bella Vista, Ark.

She was born Nov. 24, 1946, the only child of Benjamin Harrison Carr Jr. and Joyce Elaine (Van Horn) Carr. She was a Franciscan Nun at Mount St. Clare College for three and a half years and received an associate degree in nursing to become a licensed practical nurse working for numerous hospitals and a school’s nurse and teacher’s aide. She married Harry S. Peterson June 6, 1970. She was an artist, musician, and majorette/baton twirler. She was a founding member of the St. Bernard Rosary Guild.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother.

She is survived by her husband, Harry; children, Jesse (Nancy Chapman) Peterson, John (Rebeca) Peterson, Lynn (Jeffery) Voss; and six grandchild­ren.

Private family funeral services took place Tuesday, May 26, with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa.

Deborah Lynn Saalfeld

Deborah Lynn Saalfeld, 73, died Wednesday, May 27, 2020.

She was born March 12, 1947, in Chicago to Kenneth Bruce Trimble and Irene Martha Trimble (Lucker). She was a public school teacher, Lactation Consultant and active volunteer. She enjoyed riding horses, canoeing, kayaking, knitting, camping, fishing, dancing, especially line-dancing with her group in Arkansas. She was a member of both SUMC and First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista where she was a member of the choir and acted as sign language interprete­r.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert E. Kline (1973); and husband, Donald Hedman (2010).

Survivors are her daughter, Karen (Ryan) Weckerly; son, Daniel Saalfeld (Michelle Darling); daughter, Katy Saalfeld (Elson Smith); and two grandchild­ren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter, First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, or the Sycamore United Methodist Church.
