Skyline, Longmont play a game for the ages
Teams Combine for 1,282 yards of offense
Crosstown rivalr y games have a long history of producing special performances and that was exactly what happened when the Longmont and Skyline football teams met late Friday night.
In what ended as a 51-38 win for Skyline, the two teams threatened numerous records.
“It was crazy,” Skyline head coach Mike Silva said. “You just never know and that’s kind of what we said going in. I thought, of fensively, that they wouldn’t be able to stop us and that they would get theirs because they have some pretty dynamic athletes with Patterson, Johnson and Kurjak. I thought we would have some offense but it didn’t really happen the way I thought it would.”
Combining for 50 points in the second half, Skyline (3-0) and Longmont (1-2) together amassed 1,282 yards of total offense, which is ninth in state history. Longmont had 507 yards and Skyline racked up 775, the latter now standing as eighth-most in Colorado prep football histor y.
With his team chasing throughout the game, Longmont junior quar terback Keegan Patterson completed 41 passes, which tied him with the second-most ever in a single game. Junior teammate Caleb Johnson caught 18 of those passes, which is the fourth most in state history.
“Longmont High throwing 51 times wasn’t something we had game planned for but Patterson just had a great performance and he was a nightmare for us,” Silva said. “We couldn’t stop him. We were sometimes dropping eight and sometimes tr ying to get to him early. But he would continuously drop back or roll out and make plays.”
Patterson finished with 490 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Johnson finished with 204 receiving yards, Longmont senior Eddie Kurjak caught eight passes for 112 yards and junior Jack Moll had 111 yards receiving.
The Skyline of fensive line was also dominant, allowing senior running back Grayden Bridwell to rush for 384 yards while quarterback Chase Silva threw for 239 yards and rushed for 149 more. Silva accounted for six total touchdowns, running in four and passing for two.
Patterson’s 1,191 passing yards now lead the state through three games, as do Johnson’s 496 receiving yards and Bridwell’s 775 rushing yards.
Wright does right
A late-scheduled road game against Wray didn’t play out how the Niwot Cougars (0-3) hoped, as they fell 52-22 to the sixthranked team in Class 1A.
But in the loss, Craig Wright went of f.
The junior wide receiver caught eight passes from quarterback Aidan Bartko and racked up 182 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Through three games, Wright now has 12 catches for 312 yards and three receiving touchdowns.
Still perfect
Sitting at No. 6 in the CHSAANOW.COM poll, the Fair view Knights (3-0) picked up their third win of the season when they won 47-0 over Fossil
Ridge in Week 3. The Knights have now allowed just seven total points in three games.
Broomfield, Legacy, Skyline and Holy Family are also 3-0 in 2020.

On Friday night, Monarch (1-2) won 51-13 against Greeley Central to pick up its first victor y in 2020. Senior quarterback Kyle Gordon went 7-for-7 and threw a pair of touchdown passes while 10 different Monarch ball carriers combined to rush for 192 yards and five scores. Cole Carlucci led the way with 50 yards and nowhas404yardsand five rushing touchdowns on the season.
