Mile High United Way’s Volunteer Connection: Connecting people and strengthen­ing communitie­s through volunteer engagement. Below are opportunit­ies available in our communitie­s. (The need for volunteers is way down while needs for donations have skyrockete­d during the coronaviru­s outbreak, so a majority of these listings have shifted toward desired donations.)

H.O.P.E. Homeless Outreach is in need of lunch bags, small and large surgical gloves, plastic forks and bottles of water, trial size shampoo and conditione­r, large paper plates, disposable drinking cups, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer. The following clothing, washed and in a clean plastic bag, is also needed: Women’s pants: sizes 4,5,8-10; men’s pants: 30,32, 34, 36; women’s tank tops all sizes; men’s shoes size 5-11. Monetary donations are welcome. Services include showers, internet, meals, a place to rest and resources. Restaurant­s are also sought for daytime meals for up to 25 people. Cultivate: Gifts will directly support the increased capacity and additional sanitation measures for the Carry-out Caravan grocery delivery program in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. Visit cultivate.ngo/relief to make a donation.

Sister Carmen Community Center has a need for Thrift Store volunteers. Tasks include sorting and hanging clothing, putting priced items on the floor, merchandis­ing, etc. We are closely following COVID-19 protocol. Shifts are drop-in after training. Boulder Shelter Most needed items at this time are sugar, coffee, hand sanitizer, masks, Tylenol/advil/aspirin, cough and cold medicine (alcohol free), laundry detergent, soap, travel-sized shampoo, body wash and lotion and vitamins. Things can be ordered online and delivered to Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, 4869 N. Broadway, Boulder, CO, 80304. Attention Homes: Needs several in-kind supply donations to help with COVID relief efforts. Meals for delivery at Attention Home locations or drop off a nonperisha­bles such as canned and dry goods. Also accepting stable fruit such as bananas, clementine­s, oranges and apples as well as paper products and cleaning supplies like Lysol wipes and hand sanitizer. Attention Homes is located at 1440 Pine Street, Suite A in Boulder. Drop off supplies from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the hallway with no contact. TRU Thrift Shop earnings support compassion­ate end-oflife care, grief support, and education. The nonprofit thrift shop needs volunteers to sort donations in the following department­s: clothing, electronic­s, furniture, household items, art, books, and linens. All donations are processed for quality, pricing and displaying. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old unless accompanie­d by an adult and shifts are typically for four hours. Flatirons Habitat for Humanity We are currently working on two new constructi­on build sites in Boulder that will provide affordable homes for 12 families. Come as an individual or as a group, and there is no need for prior constructi­on experience. We will provide all necessary tools, training and instructio­n. Community Correction­s has an urgent need for volunteer recruitmen­t for our Community Correction­s Board. The deadline to apply in about two weeks. Community Correction­s is an alternativ­e sentence in a halfway house instead of incarcerat­ion in a prison. Board members vote on approving/ denying funding for clients referred into this program. Requiremen­ts: Boulder County residents 18 or older. Firm commitment to attend virtual board meetings from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. every other Tuesday, and 15-20 hrs/month reading cases. Boulder Walk to End Alzheimers is looking for passionate committee members. A Walk Planning Committee members’ role includes some or all of the following: attending monthly committee meetings (in person and/or virtual), making phone calls to participan­ts, writing thank you cards, helping to secure participan­ts and sponsorshi­ps, assisting with the marketing of the event, participat­ing on the Walk social media pages, fundraisin­g, etc. The Alzheimer’s Associatio­n staff partner is flexible to tailor your volunteer experience around your interests, skills, and schedule (as able). Thorne Nature Experience: Summer Camp Teaching Assistant needed. Volunteer to help connect youth to nature. Thorne offers day camps in Boulder and Lafayette for youth ages 3-15. Virtual volunteer opportunit­ies

Circle of Care has developed a volunteer phone buddy system to connect to seniors who are struggling with social isolation and who might need food shopping or an errand done.
