Mail delivery
• With regard to mail delivery: Since the internet has now replaced most of the communications that daily USPS mail supported, I think we can now change the USPS mail delivery schedule to every other day, which would result in a mail delivery three times a week. This would allow each mail carrier to cover two routes, which should result in improved mail service, and allow everyone to save a little time by retrieving mostly junk mail three days a week. Folks that do not use the internet and still communicate with paper documents would continue to receive their correspondence maybe a day later than usual.
• I just learned an insurance premium payment, which I sent by mail to St. Louis, Missouri, on Dec. 27— that was 2022 — arrived there Jan. 17. For this sort of service we’re going to be told we have to pay more for postage? That’s completely backwards.
Plastic bags
Is it just me, or are the plastic grocery store bags we’re buying for 10 cents a piece not good? It seems like every time I buy one, if I make it out to my car or from my car to my house without it ripping, it’s a good one. I reuse them to put in my small kitchen trash bin. I go to put one in and there’s a hole down in the bottom of it or split up the side. Anyway, I know it’s just the minimum cost, 10cents per bag, but I’m just interested in (knowing) if I’m getting all the bad ones.
Social Security
• The most overused quote in the TC Line is “Do your research,” followed by some untrue, off-the-wall comment. Regarding Social Security, Sen. Rick Scott, R-florida, last year proposed sunsetting — a lovely word — Social Security and Medicare, which means it could be up for review every five years. That’s a fact.
• This is a response to the TC Line entry on Wednesday. This person has it exactly backwards, in that there is a lot of historical evidence that Republicans have always supported the demise of Social Security, Medicare and other social programs. All you have to do is look for it and don’t believe what you hear from other deniers. See Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson’s proposal in February 2022, about making Medicare and Social Security to be approved annually as discretionary spending.
