Ethics committee

Before Longmont takes a look at an ethics committee, maybe everybody should read the city’s conflict of interest policy. We already have … city employees on the general economic development council. We’ve got two voting City Council members on the same economic development council. We’ve got one out of town developer on the economic development council. We should read the city planning department’s tracking log for who is applying and proposing what to build in Longmont. Look up who votes and rules on our free-for-all building plans and land rush in Longmont. Our out-of-town developers; our big, tall, dense buildings that we’re planning on; our denser housing are already being pushed on forward by our denser council. People need to see what’s already happening here. Five out of town people looking at our ethics? We don’t need more infiltration. We already have it.

The Times-call needs to hire a proofreader or two. Headlines and copy typos and spelling errors are appalling. It dumbs down your readers.

Balloons

• So, for some perspective on looking into the balloon that created so much grandstanding from members of Congress and the Senate, and now these other objects, look at the Views From the Nation’s Press in (Monday’s) paper. But remember, this isn’t the only issue with spying. Look how former President Trump denied how Russia was interfering with our election. Then remember that there’s all kinds of spying being done electronically, and how satellite spying goes on (by) China and Russia and by us and other nations. It’s the world we live in.

• Regarding balloons: Are they spying? Are they just a distraction from major things going on in the world? Are our jets’ capabilities being assessed? Or are they just floating innocent balloons now, waiting for the U.S. to become complacent about them so at a later time a dangerous cargo can be sent to destroy our country?

• I’d like to remind everybody those balloons started flying over America during the Trump administration and nothing was done. Now Joe Biden and the military have shot down four of them. We’re voting for Joe and staying with Joe till 2028.

• You have to admire China’s business acumen. They send over a $50 balloon and we expend a million dollar anti-aircraft missile to shoot it down.

• In case anybody was wondering, I suspect that Joe Biden will remain silent about the balloons until China — who owns him — gives him permission to speak. Until then he’ll be quiet or trying to blame it on somebody else.
