Residents invited to take community survey
Firestone wants to hear from its residents about how the town of just under 20,000 people should grow and operate over the next 20 years. In order to get local feedback, the town is asking community members to take its “Comprehensive Master Plan Survey No. 2,” which will be available online until Jan. 5 at firestoneco.gov/civicsend/ Viewmessage/message/218326.
The results will help inform and establish the town’s long-range comprehensive plan.
“The first survey sought feedback on plan priorities, areas of concern, and areas of opportunity,” Logan Graves, Firestone senior planner, wrote in an email. “This survey will help inform the physical aspects of the plan, including updates to the future land use map and help us strategize for five focus areas identified as part of this process.”
First, the survey asks residents how closely Firestone’s proposed vision statement aligns with their own aspirations for the town’s future. The draft statement says, in part, “Our vision is to preserve our charming small-town atmosphere while introducing a diverse array of high-quality amenities, destinations, and services that will not only enrich the lives of our existing residents but also attract new residents, businesses, and employers.”
The survey points out how Firestone anticipates adding 16,700 new residents by 2040 and asks respondents what type of housing options they would like to see go up and where future commercial centers should be developed.
Survey respondents are also asked to review a list of Firestone’s natural resources and rank them in order of importance.
Firestone Mayor Pro Tem Frank A. Jimenez wrote in an email Monday that by completing the Comprehensive Master Plan Survey, residents would actively help shape the town’s future.
“The plan is a blueprint designed by the community, for the community; influencing zoning, regulations, and policies that impact daily life,” Jimenez wrote. “The input received will provide guidance to the Board and assist me in making informed decisions that result in a better, more vibrant Firestone for all.”
