Shilo Sanders has surgery on finger

- By Brian Howell bhowell @prairiemountainmedia.com

Colorado safety Shilo Sanders had surgery to repair an injured finger this week.

During a video posted by Reach The People Media, CU head coach Deion Sanders was shown talking to his son via Facetime while Shilo was in the hospital awaiting his surgery.

Coach Prime posted on social media Friday that Shilo “made it out of surgery just fine.”

Shilo, who will be a senior in the fall, finished the 2023 season second on the team with 67 tackles and he had an 80-yard interception return for touchdown against Colorado State. Only two players in the country forced more fumbles than his four.

Financial literacy

Last offseason, Coach Prime brought in financial advisors to meet with his coaching staff, some of which were set to make more money than they had in the past.

Sanders would like to see financial literacy classes for players, too, as many of them are making money through name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities.

“With Nil/collectives, there should be mandatory financial literacy classes,” Sanders told Thee Pregame Show. “What’s happening today is a disservice to these kids … they get the bag but there’s no education on maintaining the bag … they go out and buy things and have nothing to show for it later — for some, this may be the only athletic money they ever receive… I don’t mind our kids having the things they dreamt of — but I don’t want those things having them.

“Schools should retain a staffer that’s relatable with a financial background to assist these young people — not just in securing Nils/collectives — but to make sure they keep most of what they make.”
