After a heroic 2 ?1/21/2 year battle with ovarian cancer, Peggy Young Schallert passed in Lone Tree, Colorado, at the age of 71. Born in Chicago, on

April 2, 1952, Peggy grew up in Long Grove, Illinois. She graduated in 1970 from Carmel High School in Mundelein, Illinois. She then studied art and accounting at Bradley University (Peoria, Illinois). After college, she moved to Colorado and married Mike Golden. They had a son, Jason. After they divorced, Peggy met the love of her life, Jon Schallert. They married January 24, 1983, and together had a daughter, Jenna.

Peggy and Jon were a force throughout their 40 years of marriage. Their strengths complemented each other, and they completely supported each other, sharing life's joys and challenges. As they raised their family, they relocated to Huntington, West Virginia; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Sorrento, Florida, where Peg became an accomplished realtor and was on the Board of Directors of the Icehouse Theatre in Mt. Dora, Florida. It was in Florida that they founded The Schallert Group, an internationally recognized destination consulting service, helping independent businesses become successful and supporting healthy downtown communities.

In 1997, Peggy and Jon relocated themselves and the company to Longmont, Colorado. There they purchased and restored the oldest brick building in the city, the home of Longmont's first bank, located at 321 Main

Street in downtown Longmont. 321 Main became the home of the company's Destination Business Boot Camp. Hundreds of independent business owners and community leaders made the trek to Longmont to learn how to transform their businesses and communities into destinations. Many of their business clients became close friends, in no small part due to Peggy's warmth and passion for helping others, as well as her business acumen. In 2020, she and Jon moved to Tabernash, Colorado, to enjoy the mountains and outdoor activities.

Peggy's love for her family was only equaled by her love of art, animals, and outdoor sports such as cross-country skiing, and kayaking and sculling on Longmont's Union Reservoir. She honed her drawing, painting, and fabric art skills through Denver's Art Students League. Many of her exquisite pastels were featured in art shows and remain treasured.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Jon; son Jason Golden (Carrie) and their children, Sierra and River; daughter, Jenna; sisters Barb Kenehan (Jay) and Jacque Macintosh; her beloved nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends. A celebration of life will be planned at a future date and those interested in attending can let Jon know via email at jon@jonschallert.com.
