Longmont police updated the public on a shooting on Main Street in late March, with police now saying two groups of men who did not know each other got into a fight after at least one group was leaving a bar.

According to an initial release from Longmont Public Safety, at 12:32 a.m. March 29, officers responded to two people verbally and physically fighting in front of 321 Main St.

During the altercation, one man, identified as 36-yearold Christopher Johnston, was shot and killed, according to the Boulder County Coroner’s Office. The suspected shooter called 911 and remained on the scene until police arrived, according to the release.

Longmont Public Safety spokeswoman Robin Ericson updated the public with more information on Monday, stating that two men left the Speakeasy Bar and Venue at 301 Main St. and encountered two other men on the sidewalk in the 300 block of Main Street.

One of the men leaving the Speakeasy had a handgun, according to Ericson.

The men got into a fight in front of 321 Main St. and one man reportedly shot an individual from the second group, later identified as Johnston.

The two sets of individuals did not know each other, said Ericson.

According to Ericson, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the shooting.

Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office for review.
