Moore tosses Brewers past Northampton

- By Nick Iuele

If Upper Moreland pitches the way it has all year, they will most likely cruise WR Whe finLsh DnG enG uS with a title.

Pete Moore continued the good pitching spell for the Brewers, helping his team beat a solid Northhampton team 3-1. Although the Upper Moreland lineup was a bit inconsistent at times during the game, the combination of Moore’s effort on the hill and some timely hitting was a recipe for success.

Moore was not perfect in his outing, but certainly got stronger as the game went along. The Brewers’ player/ coach threw six innings of one-run, four-hit ball while striking out nine. Seven of the nine strikeouts came in Whe finDO WhUee LnnLnJs Ln which Moore only allowed one hit.

In the next couple of innings, the Brewers would get runners on, but did not manage to knock them in. Nobel Unger had the best day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

“It’s baseball, you’re not going to get big hits all night every time,” Moore said. “We scored nine runs last night, and only three tonight, but as long as we continue to have good at-bats and run the bases hard, we’ll be fine.”

In the fourth inning, Northamption showed signs of life, getting a run on an RBI single by Drew Gerhart. That would be the only run they could muster, though, beFDuse DIWeU D URFNy fiUsW inning Moore was in complete control. “I started to feel like I was getting a little stronger late in the game,” Moore said. “I found my two-seamer and cutter later in the game, and then was able to use my curveball a little more, so it was good.”

Moore was happy with the overall performance of his squad, especially with the postseason on the horizon.

“I liked our defense today; I thought we were sound defensively and got some timely hitting,” Moore said. “I thought our intensity was up because we are getting ready for the playoffs in a week or so.”
