Melissa Slater

Melissa Ann (Maltman) Slater, 42 years old, passed away at Lankenau Hospital on Sunday, July 29, 2012, surrounded by members of her loving family. Most recently a resident of the Inglis House, where she received wonderful care, Melissa was a 1987 graduate of Abington High School.

In her earlier years, Melissa enjoyed Irish dancing and twirling and pursued a career in child care prior to the onset of multiple sclerosis, which she fought courageously for over half of her life.

She is survived by her children, Ray and Maggie Slater; her parents, Harry and Mary (Grierson) Maltman; and her siblings, Kathy Kempf, Carol Peel (Kevin), Michael (Laura) and Tricia Mooney (Brian); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Aug. 2, 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Luke the Evangelist, 2316 Fairhill Ave. (at Easton Road), Glenside. Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing at the church Thursday after 10 a.m. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions will be gratefully accepted by the family for a trust fund established for Ray and Maggie Slater, c/o Tricia Mooney, 359 Forrest Ave., Elkins Park, PA 19027.
