Injured Huntingdon Valley man dies
The car crash involving an 87-year-old man and a SEPTA bus last Wednesday morning in Jenkintown turned fatal.
Michael Breier of Huntingdon Valley was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning at Abington Memorial Hospital as a result of injuries he suffered in the accident, according to Jenkintown police Chief Albert Di- Valentino. DiValentino said Breier suffered massive head injuries.
Jenkintown police were dispatched to the accident that took place at Rydal and York roads at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 22 after Breier, who as operating an Acura, made a left turn onto Rydal Road from York Road against a red arrow. The passenger side of the vehicle was struck by a SEPTA bus that was northbound on York Road, DiValentino said. The bus driver was unable to avoid Breier’s vehicle, he said.
“His family is suffering a terrible, sudden loss of this outstanding, vibrant man,” said Breier’s daughter, Macy Breier, in an email.
Breier grew up in Philadelphia and was a graduate of Temple University; he worked as a computer systems analyst and consultant for many years, Macy said. He was a decorated World War II veteran, she said.
“He was an intelligent, vigorous man who walked several miles a day and lifted weights,” she said.
Macy described her father as a man who was interested in world affairs, the stock market, and loved the Phillies and the Eagles.
Most of all, Macy said that her father took care of everyone, including his wife, mother, brother, children and grandchildren.
“My parents took in a homeless man off the street and let him live with them when I was younger,” she said. “[My father] had a heart of gold and was very generous.”
