Bristoli Simmons run over Jenkintown

- By Nick Iuele

Jenkintown did not play very well against BristolI but it is tough to win any game when aonte Simmons is running at you.

“qhey were just better in every phase of the gameI” Jenkintown coach Phil Gormley said. “lffense or defense it didn’t matterI they are a really good football team.”

qhe arakes were killed by the one-man wrecking crew in their 45-T loss to Bristol. Simmons ran for O8N yards DnG fivH WRuFKGRwns Ln WKH rout. Whether he went up the middle or to the sidelinesI the Jenkintown defense had no answer for him.

“My kids played hardI but we don’t have anyone that can catch that kidI” Gormley said. “ee’s really quickI a really good football player.”

Most of the damage took place in the beginning of the game. Simmons ran for NSV yards and four touchdowns in the opening halfI three of WKH sFRUHs FRPLnJ Ln WKH fiUsW quarter. By the end of the fiUsW, WKH DUDNHs wHUH GRwn ON-M and the rout was on.

qo its creditI Jenkintown never gave up. qhe arakes could have easily folded after WKH ELJ fiUsW TuDUWHU, EuW WKHy started off the second with four-yard touchdown plunge by quarterback qom Kinniry. qhe score was brought back to within two touchdowns and Jenkintown had a life line for the time being.

Simmons and Bristol put an end to that before the halftime whistle.

Simmons and aylan Shamwell each had a rushing touchdown each in the second quarterI putting Bristol up P5-T going into the locker room. After the opening few minutes of the third TuDUWHU GULSSHG DwDy, D fiHOG goal and S5-yard Simmons touchdown run put the Warriors up 45-T and the mercy rule allowed the clock run continuously through the rest of the third and fourth quarters.

“ff we played that team NM timesI we would probably lose NM timesI” Gormley said. “qhey were biggerI faster and more physicalI but f’m glad my kids didn’t quit. qhey could have folded it up and called it a day. We’ll get back after it and see what happens going into next week.”

Given the situationI Kinniry had a solid game under center. ee had a few nice completions throughout the game and rushed for the only Jenkintown score early on in the game.

ln the defensive endI Kinniry and Michael McKeman each had a sack. qhe Jenkintown defense was able to hold off the Bristol run somewhat toward the end of the third and fourth quarterI but by that time it was too late and the game was already out of hand.
