- By Greg Vellner

UPPER SOUTHAMPTON » The 47th annual Southampton Days will celebrate the nation’s birthday with a festive weeklong lineup that includes fireworks, a parade, amusement rides, live music and food — plus a new theme.

“The theme for our fair this year is ‘We are Family,’” said Stephanie Miller, vice president, Southampton Days Committee, the group that puts together the event. “In our ad book, this year we will feature family owned businesses in Southampton.”

The popular happening will run July 2 through July 7 at Tamanend Park, 1255 Second Street Pike, where beginning at 6 p.m. attendees can enjoy rides, games, music, a talent show, a dog show, live music and more.

On July 4, the Sam Costantini Fourth of July Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Jaymor Road and Second Street Pike and run north on the Pike to Tamanend Park. Fireworks get underway at 9:30 p.m. The fee on this day only is $3 per person, with ages 3 and younger free.

On July 4, Southampton Days has an added security detail in effect.

“All attendees will have possessions checked when they enter,” said Miller. “We’ve done that the past two years.”

Second Street Pike will be closed to traffic, and parking is not permitted at the adjacent Klinger Middle School. Handicap parking is available at Davisville Church on Street Road with transportation provided to Tamanend.

Other highlights include the ninth annual Patrick Miller Talent Show beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 5, in Lions Grove in Tamanend and the annual dog show at 6 p.m. Friday, July 6, on the Midway Stage.

The Southampton-Warminster Area Lions 5K Race begins with registration at 7 a.m. July 4, and on the final day (Saturday, July 7), Coach Bag Bingo at 3:30 p.m.

“We play 10 games,” said Miller. “There’s limited seating, and tickets must be purchased in advance because there’s only about 100 to 110 tickets for this event.”

Free live music is scheduled every evening in Tamanend.
