Andrea White Barlow, a former social worker, therapist and community volunteer, died peacefully on June 29, 2018. She had been courageously fighting and winning her battle against cancer for 13 ½ years. Andrea was born on June 21, 1956 in Winona, Minnesota. Educated in the Winona public schools and at the Madeira School in McLean, Virginia, Andrea went on to attend Vassar College from which she graduated in 1978. For six years, Andrea worked as a social worker at the Children’s Aid Society of Philadelphia during which time she earned a Master of Social Service from Bryn Mawr College. It was also during this time that she met her husband, John Barlow, with whom she spent 34 joyful years.

After the Children’s Aid Society, Andrea went on to work as a social worker at the Carson Valley School in Flourtown, PA where she remained until 2000. After a brief stint in private practice, Andrea retired from social work. Never one to sit idly, Andrea went on to volunteer with her church, Trinity Episcopal, the Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard and the Ambler Theater and worked several mornings a week at the YMCA caring for young children.

A devoted wife, mother, friend and community member, Andrea will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Andrea is survived by her husband, John; her children, Alex and Megan; her grandson, Damian; and her brother and sister, Angus White and Dana White.

A service celebrating Andrea’s life will be held this Friday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Ambler, followed by an interment at Trinity’s Memorial Garden and a reception at the church.
