NEWTOWN » With a heat index of over 100 degrees, the LOMA baseball squad cruised to a 9-0 victory over the hometown Central Bucks Brewers at Middletown Grange on Saturday.

Highlighting the victory was LOMA’s starting pitcher Seth Greene, who only gave up one hit while getting 12 strikeouts in four innings.

“I just tried to stay in the zone,” said Greene. “It’s been a while since I’ve been on the mound, tried to stay within my limits and get the win for these guys.”

LOMA got on the scoreboard early in the top of the first inning when Corey Kramer came around to score on an error by Brewers first baseman Tommy Mitchell.

Central Bucks did start hot, putting runners on first and second base to start the game, but Greene struck out the next three batters to get out of the first inning.

After hitting the leadoff batter Kyle Feasby in the second inning, Greene once again got the next three batters out on strikes.

LOMA was able to strike for two more runs in the third inning. Bob Prozdowski scored on another error by Mitchell to give LOMA a 2-0 lead.

Trey Guaglionona reached first base on that same error and he later scored to give LOMA a 3-0 lead after three innings.

In total, Mitchell was responsible for LOMA’s three runs with his two fielding errors.

Later, Mitchell came up to pitch in the fourth inning and could only get one out and give up two more runs to give LOMA a 5-0 lead after four innings.

Finally LOMA came up big with four runs in the sixth inning to settle the 9-0 victory.

Central Bucks was able to get two hits in the game, one given up by Greene and relief pitcher Doug Brown.

The Brewers broke up the nohitter in the fourth inning when the starting pitcher Michael Angellilli reached first base on a two-out single.

Doug Brown gave up his lone hit in the fifth inning when Ryan Kolimaga reached first on a leadoff single down the third base line.

Brown finished the game on the mound only putting one runner on base and striking out five Brewers in the last three innings.

LOMA head coach Mike Whitaker, who went 0-for-3 with an RBI offensively, was proud of

team’s efforts in an extremely hot atmosphere.

“I can’t say enough about Mike’s performance,” said Whitaker. “He was dominant for four innings considering only one person put the ball in play.”

“I know he hit a couple guys,” added Whitaker. “Other than that he was

really dominant today.”

Angellilli received the loss for the Brewers despite all three of his runs given up were unearned. He also struck out four batters in the loss.

Central Bucks will have over a week off for Independence Day as they will next play on Monday, July 9 taking on the Philly Bandits at Middletown Grange with first pitch scheduled for 6:15 p.m.

LOMA will look for its

fourth straight win on Sunday, taking on the Philly Bandits at Alverthorpe Park at 1:00 p.m.
