Son of the late Fred and Louise Held Wurster, he was born on September 16, 1933, in Schuyler Lake, NY. He was blessed to be married to Barbara Wurster for 23 years until her death and was then blessed to have 37 years of marriage to Roberta Drake-Wurster. Both were the light of his life and created the loving family he has today.

John graduated from Union College, was drafted into the U.S. Army, and went to work for Travelers and then Frontier Insurance companies. His faith was boundless as he was a long-time member of King of Kings Lutheran Church where he served in many positions including past president of Council. John’s family was his great joy and he loved them unconditionally. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who was a part of so many wonderful celebrations over his many years. His advice, faith, and generosity to all who knew him were a blessing. He enjoyed sharing his fond memories of growing up in Schuyler Lake, NY with family and friends. John could be found at sporting events and performances cheering on his children and grandchildren. This past September his family was blessed to spend his 90th birthday with him.

The family is especially thankful for the kind and gentle attention he received from the caregivers at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, NY. They are especially grateful for the support and love from their pastor, Mary Lou Baumgartner of King of Kings Lutheran Church.

In addition to his beloved wives, Barbara and Roberta, he is predeceased by his brother and sisters; Margaret Wurster, Louise Wurster, Elizabeth Wharton, and Fred Wurster.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jeffrey (Kathy Kimball-Wurster), of the Town of Newburgh, Laurie Wurster Johnson (Roger), of Rapid City, South Dakota, Kevin (Lynn Scala-Wurster), of the Town of New Windsor, and Jon (Nicole Zippo Wurster), of the Town of New Windsor; grandchildren, Daniel Versace, Devin Klaber (Raysten), Benjamin Johnson (Brianna), Sarah Johnson, Nicholas Yozzo, Laura Wurster, Meghan Wurster, and Joanna Roberta Wurster; three great-grandchildren, Vivianna and Natalie Klaber and Quinn Johnson; his sisters, Marie Connor and Barbara Coleman; many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
