Barbara E. Meier
SPRING HILL - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara E. (Baldwin) Meier, age 88, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, in Spring Hill, FL. Barbara was born on January 4th, 1935, in Goshen, NY, to Eola and Edward Baldwin. After graduating from Montgomery High School in Montgomery, NY in 1951, she began her career as a personal secretary to Amy Bull Crist, both mentor and friend who taught Barbara the history and the business operations of Orange County, NY. This led to her working for Wallace Oil and later as the Secretary to William T. Cocks, Principal at Valley Central Middle School in Montgomery, NY.
Barbara married Robert Meier, Sr. on June 14th, 1953, and they enjoyed a loving marriage for over 70 years. Barbara was a devoted wife and mother to her four sons: Robert, Jr., Michael, Kenneth, and Terrence. She will be remembered for her kindness, love, and dedication to her family.
Barbara was also a pioneer in the antique business, using her keen secretary skills and love for antiquing to build a thriving antique business after her fourth son was born. Barbara became a licensed antiques dealer and she and her husband Bob traveled all over the country. She was a knowledgeable expert in the field and knew all of the reputable antique dealers by name from each state, especially the East Coast. Barbara was still actively involved in the business of antiques right up until she passed. Her personal collection was extensive and her knowledge was vast.
Barbara and her husband, Robert Meier, Sr., moved to Spring Hill, FL after Bob’s retirement in 1988. They quickly became an integral part of their neighborhood, forming close friendships and providing a lovely place to visit for their children and grandchildren over the years. Barbara will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will always be remembered as a kind-hearted, quick-witted passionate individual who enriched the lives of everyone around her.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents and three of her sisters, Betty, Carol, and JoAnne. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Meier, Sr., her sister Sandra Hoyt; her four sons, Robert Meier, Jr., Michael (Cathy) Meier, Kenneth (Paula) Meier, Terrence (Stephanie) Meier; her ten grandchildren, Adrienne, Becca, Adam, Casey, Erin, Marshall, Kyle, Kristen, Truett, Sloan; and her two great-grandchildren, Ayla, Zayn.
A graveside service for Barbara will be held Friday, October 20, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Turner Funeral Home, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34609.
