OSSIPEE - Barbara Davenport Neville, 91, passed away February 19, 2024 after a period of declining health.

Born in Kingston, PA, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Taylor Neville, her parents, Dr. Samuel M. and Harriet (Mensch), and brothers William C. and Samuel M. Davenport.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree at Bucknell University and her M.Ed at SUNY New Paltz. She taught elementary school, and lived her adult life in Pennsylvan­ia, Delaware, Maryland, New York,and New Hampshire, always finding a church home and discoverin­g ways to advocate for others. Her students, literacy projects, AIDS patients, the food insecure, or just a new neighbor moving in...they all found a friendly presence in Barbara. Projects dear to her heart in the New Hampshire Lakes Region included the (Huggins) Hospital Aid Street Fair, Sentinel Baptist Camp, Cornerston­e Christian Academy, Village Players Theater, and Melvin Village Community Church.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Marcia Burke and husband Bob of Littleton, CO; daughter Barbara Wilson and husband Glenn of Ctr. Tuftonboro, NH; and granddaugh­ters Emma Gonya (Zack) of Nottingham, NH; Taylor Wilson of Raleigh, NC, and Brittany Manock Page (Craig) of Attleboro, MA. Her great-grandsons Tuckerman, Bridger and Timber were the bright lights of her final years.

The family gives special thanks to the staffs of the Sugar Hill and Mountain View Communitie­s for all their kindnesses, friendship, and profession­alism.

A memorial celebratio­n will be held at Melvin Village Community Church in Melvin Village, NH, Sunday, March 24, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested donations be made to the Dr. and Mrs. Samuel M. Davenport Scholarshi­p at Wilkes University, which supports students planning a career in healthcare.
