Section 9 honors go to Monchery, Lichtenstein

The Friends of Section 9 wrestling recognized more than two dozen people at its awards dinner.

The Troy Bouzakis Senior Wrestler of the Year award went to Stephan Monchery of Middletown. The Frank Tschan team of the year was the Minisink Valley boys – coach Kevin Gallagher was named the Mark Faller champion coach of the year.

The coach of the year went to Jason Lichtenstein of Middletown. Eugene Noboa of Middletown was named the Assistant Coach of the Year.

P.J. Duke of Minisink Valley and Justin Coiteux of New Paltz won the most outstanding wrestler awards at the Section 9 tournament. The most exciting match went to Middletown’s D.J.

Aviles and Minisink Valley’s Wyatt Boice in Division I and Red Hook’s Ewan Celestine and Justin Harrison of Port Jervis in Division II.

Duke won the boys Comeback of Year award. Valley Central’s E.J. Vass was presented with the Pat D’Aliso most improved first-year wrestler award. Bryson Tibbs of Middletown won the sportsmanship award from the Orange/Sullivan officials organization.

The senior girls wrestler of the year awards went to Zoe Kip of Liberty and Brooke Tarshis of Pine Bush – both earned DeCapua scholarships.

DeCapua scholarships were presented to Monchery and Jacob Roger of Middletown; Christopher Herriman of Roosevelt and Coiteux of New Paltz.
