Section 9 honors go to Monchery, Lichtenste­in

The Friends of Section 9 wrestling recognized more than two dozen people at its awards dinner.

The Troy Bouzakis Senior Wrestler of the Year award went to Stephan Monchery of Middletown. The Frank Tschan team of the year was the Minisink Valley boys – coach Kevin Gallagher was named the Mark Faller champion coach of the year.

The coach of the year went to Jason Lichtenste­in of Middletown. Eugene Noboa of Middletown was named the Assistant Coach of the Year.

P.J. Duke of Minisink Valley and Justin Coiteux of New Paltz won the most outstandin­g wrestler awards at the Section 9 tournament. The most exciting match went to Middletown’s D.J.

Aviles and Minisink Valley’s Wyatt Boice in Division I and Red Hook’s Ewan Celestine and Justin Harrison of Port Jervis in Division II.

Duke won the boys Comeback of Year award. Valley Central’s E.J. Vass was presented with the Pat D’Aliso most improved first-year wrestler award. Bryson Tibbs of Middletown won the sportsmans­hip award from the Orange/Sullivan officials organizati­on.

The senior girls wrestler of the year awards went to Zoe Kip of Liberty and Brooke Tarshis of Pine Bush – both earned DeCapua scholarshi­ps.

DeCapua scholarshi­ps were presented to Monchery and Jacob Roger of Middletown; Christophe­r Herriman of Roosevelt and Coiteux of New Paltz.
