Redwood Chapter of Sierra Club endorses Robert McConnell for mayor
Vallejo mayoral candidate Robert McConnell has recently received the endorsement of the Redwood Chapter of the Sierra Club.
The Sierra Club is a nation-wide environmental group founded in 1892 by John Muir, its first ScottishAmerican president that is headquartered in Oakland.
“Robert McConnell was an opponent to coal shipments and has been a long time supporter of maintaining the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve,” said Sierra Club representative and scholar, Joseph Feller in a news release. “McConnell respects the report of the 35 member citizen’s commission which advocated for a nonprofit entity to operate the Preserve. But this endorsement has more to do with the future of our environment than the past. The Sierra Club feels that the upcoming issues of Climate Change, Sea Level Rise, and increasingly massive fires will require wise leadership and a firm hand on Vallejo’s responses to these challenges. We at the Sierra Club speak with one voice and we overwhelmingly believe that Robert H. McConnell is the right person for the Mayor of Vallejo, California at this time.”
McConnell was thrilled to get the endorsement.
“It is a great honor to receive this endorsement from representatives of an entity that is doing such critically important work,” McConnell said in the same release. “We can no longer deny the existence of climate change and the critical challenges we face because of it. We all must address this issue now, and act accordingly. There is precious little time to waste.”
