Operation P.E.A.C.E. officers make gun arrest

- Times-Herald staff report

Vallejo’s newly formed Operation P.E.A.C.E. (Predictive Enforcement and Community Engagement) project saw officers make a gun arrest while seizing a firearm on Wednesday.

At approximately 9:43 p.m., Operation P.E.A.C.E officers observed a dark colored BMW parked in front of a business located on the 500 block of Tuolumne Street, according to a news release.

Upon approaching the unoccupied vehicle, officers noticed that the engine was running with the head lights turned on. In addition, the driver door window was open and the vehicle was unlocked. Upon further examination, officers saw a loaded handgun with an extended magazine located between the passenger seat and center console of the vehicle. The weapon was seized.

As officers waited for the the occupant(s) to return to the vehicle, the suspect, later identified as 31-yearold Vallejo resident Brian E. Turner, entered the vehicle and fled the scene at a high rate of speed, traveling northbound on Tuolumne Street.

During the attempted enforcement stop, Turner failed to yield to officers and lost control of his vehicle in the 3300 block of Tennessee

Street, striking the curb and disabling his vehicle. Turner then exited his vehicle and ran into a field north of Alpine Court and Tennessee Street. With the assistance of a canine, Turner was detained and taken into custody without incident.

“I am thankful for the proactive police work by our officers to reduce crime in the City of Vallejo,” Chief of Police Shawny Williams stated in the same release. “Our department remains committed to making predictive enforcement and community engagement a priority, and we are hopeful that members of our community will continue to join us in that concerted effort.”
