Vote for Diaz

-

I have worked closely with Mina Diaz for several years on community projects. I am the retired Santa Rosa City Attorney and have worked with many, many city council members. I know how hard, frustrating, and rewarding serving on the council can be. Mina has what it takes. She has built a record of major contributions to Vallejo over nearly four decades. Her experience, leadership, and working relationships with city, county, nonprofit, and community leaders will enable her to hit the ground running.

Mina listens and learns quickly. She has demonstrated again and again her commitment to try new strategies. She does not give up. She believes in Vallejo. She ran a grass roots campaign for city council in 2016 and came very close to winning a seat on the council.

Mina’s own family, including her sons and daughter and 5-year- old grandson (and another grandchild is on the way), are some of the reasons that she is committed to Vallejo and its future. After a nearly three- decade career in county social services, she is now a businesswoman here, working as a Realtor.

Mina’s connections with the county’s many nonprofits and county agencies will enable her to leverage even more services for the unhoused, struggling families, seniors, and children. Mina has always fought for an equal chance for all people.

The United Way Bay Area and the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors have honored Mina’s efforts to reduce poverty and to help everyone get a chance to work hard and improve their families’ lives.

Mina established a community center eight years ago.

The center has provided countless workshops on pathway to citizenship, success in school (including collecting and distributing school supplies), a highly regarded high school success and tutorial program called Ser Latino, and employment opportunities.

Mina serves on the Solano

County First 5 Commission, which allocates millions of dollars each year from the state tobacco tax for Solano County’s children. First 5 funds programs that better the lives of pre-school children and their families. Funded partners provide prenatal care, health care access, high quality childcare, family support, and parent education.

Mina has also served on the board of the Solano Children’s Network for three years. The Children’s Network improves the lives of children in Solano County through education, advocacy, coordination of community services, and community-based collaboratives.

In 2017, Mina, her friends and allies, including Filipino immigrant advocates, fought for Vallejo to become a safe haven from ICE for Vallejo immigrants who had not committed a serious crime. Mina was instrumental in the City of Vallejo unanimously adopting a safe haven policy. Mina immigrated here as a child and knows the opportunities and challenges faced by the many immigrants in Vallejo.

Through her years of community service, Mina has built relationships with many business, nonprofit, city, county, and state leaders. They know Mina is committed, responsible, direct, and relentless. They seek her advice on many issues. Community leaders respect and trust her, even if they disagree on some issues. They invite her to serve on advisory boards and task forces. Her views and recommendations are given weight. Why? Because of her deep knowledge of Vallejo, the perspective she brings, and her willingness to work hard to make Vallejo stronger, healthier, and more prosperous.

No candidate has roots deeper in Vallejo than Mina’s. This is where she has raised her children and helps nearly every day with her grandson. She has belonged to the same parish for 35 years.

Mina can work effectively with all people. She will fight to get things done for children, families, workers, seniors, businesses, District 3, and all parts of our community. She will listen — the most important skill an elected official has. She has shown the ability to get things done, discipline, grit, and commitment to Vallejo that we need on our council.
