Vote Verder-Aliga

-

As a Vallejo resident that works in Solano County and father of two young boys, the upcoming election in Vallejo is not only critical to our community but also very personal to my family’s livelihood. My wife grew up in Vallejo and we recently moved back because this is the place we want to be and raise our kids. Like many of us Vallejo residents, we see the “potential” of the city: its diversity, architecture and rich history, waterfront views and great weather. Although we can’t hide from the problems that have faced our city from the past bankruptcy, crime rates and police shootings to name a few. Many of the “good and the bad” prompted me to want to get more involved in the city which is why I applied for the City’s Human Relations Commission two years ago and now sit as the Commission Chair. It is in this capacity that I got to meet and work closely with Dr. Rozzana Verder-Aliga who supports the commission and is running for Vallejo City Council District 1.

Dr. Roz, simply put, is a leader. For those that know her, they all know this. For those who are not that involved in the ins and out of Vallejo, she’s the type of person you can trust because she truly believes in public service, understands how government works, knows how to cultivate leadership and genuinely cares about people. As a person that has worked in the public, private and nonprofit sector, I’ve seen leaders of all sorts and Dr. Roz is what Vallejo needs right now. She’s strong, compassionate and empathetic to the issues facing our city. As a mental health expert by trade, she understands the need to heal but also knows the “tools” on how to move forward. And whether you agree or disagree with her past decisions or voting record, she is most interested in working together with the council and putting egos aside to make decisions which is important if the city is to progress.

These are unprecedented times and if there’s anyone on the council that understands the gravity of how to deal in crisis management, it’s Dr. Roz. I know that we all feel that “change” is needed in our city and I can’t agree more, however Dr. Roz has been a part of that change when it comes to economic development, police reform and enhancing public safety. Not to mention because of COVID-19, she is working the frontlines to support those with mental health issues across the county so she knows first-hand what we’re up against.

This election year is very personal to me and my family and I am going to vote for leaders who are proven, know how to lead with compassion and will put in the time like Dr. Roz. It’s easy to judge from the outside (where I was before I got involved) so I encourage my fellow Vallejo residents and especially young people to get more involved and learn how to influence the systems in place. That is what it’s going to take for us to overcome a lot of these major obstacles and to have leaders like Dr. Roz who will help us and the community, and lead the way.

And if you don’t trust me, then trust the long list of supporters: U. S. Rep. Mike Thompson, state Sen. Bill Dodd, Vallejo Mayor Bob Sampayan, former Mayor

Osby Davis, the Napa/Solano Central Labor Council, current Vallejo City Councilmembers Pippin Dew- Costa and Hermie Sunga, VCUSD School Board Members Dr. Tony Ubalde, Tony Gross and John Fox, the Filipino Community in Vallejo and the thousands of Vallejo residents.

Vote Rozzana Verder-Aliga for Vallejo City Council District 1 on Nov. 3 — early voting starts Oct. 5!
