Solano County voting information available

- By Katy St. Clair kstclair@timesheraldonline. com

Election day will be here before we know it — Tuesday, Nov. 3 — and now is the time to create a voter checklist to ensure your voice will be heard.

Here is some basic voter information for Solano County. ( For voters with limited internet access, The Solano County Registrar of Voters can answer your questions, and they can be reached at 707-784- 6675, or voters can visit the office at 675 Texas Street, Suite 2600, in Fairfield.)

How to see if your voter registration is current

Go to voterstatus.ca.gov where you will be prompted to enter your name, date of birth, and either your California Driver’s License number or the last four digits of your Social Security number. From there, you will know that your registration is valid if the screen says “Active.” Make sure that the address associated with your registration matches your current address.

How to register to vote

Voter registration forms can be found at several local government offices and institutions, including your City Clerk’s Office, public library, post office, Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Registrar of Voters office in Fairfield. You can also call them to have the form mailed to you at (707) 784- 6675. The deadline for registration is 15 days before the election, Monday, Oct. 19.

How to vote by mail or have a ballot sent to you to drop off

This election, every registered voter in California is being sent a vote by mail ballot automatically. You can also request a ballot this way: Check your voter registration status (see above). Once you determine that your status is “Active,” you will have the option to select “I want to get my ballot by mail before each election.” This is also where you will go to check to see the status of your ballot.

Once you have your ballot you can drop it off at any of the early voting places listed below or you can bring your ballot to the polls on election day. If you misplace your ballot you can go to the polls on election day and request a provisional ballot.

Ballots began being sent out to all registered California voters on Sept. 26. It is important to follow the directions on the ballot very carefully. Make sure your signature that you will place in the allocated line on the back of the mailing envelope (under the flap) matches the signature on file.

Important: Ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 3 to be valid. California will count properly postmarked ballots that arrive as late as 17 days after the election, but they must be postmarked by Nov. 3, according to Secretary of State Alex Padilla (sos. ca.gov).
