A 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm in a vehicle.

After a traffic stop earlier this week in Vallejo, a Solano County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a 22-yearold man and a 23-year- old woman on suspicion of possessing a firearm in a vehicle, and the man also likely will face a charge of having a firearm as a prohibited person.

In a Sheriff’s Office account that was posted Thursday on social media, a deputy conducted a traffic stop Tuesday on a car for a vehicle violation near the intersection of Ream Street and Wallace Avenue.

While talking with the vehicle’s occupants, Roman Penn of Stockton and Jennifer Figueroa of Suisun City, the deputy allegedly smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the sedan. In addition to the smell, deputies noticed there was loose marijuana in the vehicle’s center console.

Based on probable cause, deputies searched the car and allegedly found a loaded handgun in the passenger compartment.

Afterward, Penn and Figueroa were arrested, suspected of possessing of a firearm in a vehicle, and Penn also was arrested for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person, meaning he was likely previously convicted of a felony.

They were then booked into Solano County Jail in Fairfield.

Since the start of 2020, a Solano County Sheriff’s deputy team has removed 46 illegally possessed guns off the streets, the post’s author noted.
