An 18-year-old Suisun City man was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of marijuana possession after a traffic stop for a Vehicle Code violation in Suisun City.

Ricardo Mieves-Medina was taken into custody and booked into Solano County Jail in Fairfield after the vehicle stop and search of his vehicle when a Suisun City police sergeant found that “a strong odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle,” according to a department social media post.

During the vehicle search, the sergeant allegedly discovered more than 165 grams of marijuana, or about six ounces, and several cannabis resin oil and cartridges, numerous plastic baggies, cash, and scale. The post indicated that Mieves-Medina also was unlicensed and was arrested for numerous marijuana and traffic-related offenses.

A search of jail records Monday indicated that Mieves-Medina was not in custody, suggesting he may have been released after being booked.

The Suisun City Police Department reminded that with the passage of Proposition 64 by the voters of California in 2016, marijuana laws changed.

Here are some things to be aware of regarding marijuana: It remains illegal for anyone to drive under the influence of marijuana, or drive with an open container of marijuana in the passenger compartment. It is illegal to consume marijuana in public. It is also illegal to sell any amount (without appropriate licensing and approval), possess more than 28.5 grams (one ounce) of marijuana, or possess more than 8 grams of concentrated cannabis if you are over 21 years of age. Lastly, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to possess any amount of marijuana.
