AIREY EARNS BIG WEST Senior linebacker

HONOR >> Connor Airey was selected as the ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Sunday afternoon.

Airey totaled 10 tackles with a 14-yard interception, a sack and a quarterback hurry in Saturday’s season-opening upset of No. 19 Idaho. His sack was one of two tackles for losses in the contest, helping UC Davis hold the Vandals to just 109 net rushing yards.

Eastern Washington’s Eric Barriere and Idaho State’s Kevin Ryan captured the Offensive and Special Teams awards, respectively. Airey is the first Aggie honoree for the Defensive POW honor since Nick Eaton won it on October 14, 2019.

UC Davis returns to action on Saturday for a road game at Weber State, which moved up to No. 2 in last week’s Stats Perform FCS poll.
