Benicia High girls tennis team gets win in opener

Clayton Valley baseball team picks up victory over Benicia

The Benicia High School girls tennis team beat visiting Berean Christian 4-2 on Thursday in Diablo Athletic League play.

The Panthers got a marathon win at No. 1 doubles from Lisa Mimaki and Aubrey Brown, who won 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (4). The No. 3 team of Sara Bazan and Morgan Taylor won 6-1, 6-1.

The No. 5 team of Mandi Luellen and Megan Foon won 6-2, 6-0 and the No. 6 team of Jayden Rivas and Kelly Chamberlai­n won 6-1, 6-1.

Benicia is at Clayton Valley on Tuesday.

Baseball

Clayton Valley 3, Benicia 0

The Benicia High baseball team was two-hit by Clayton Valley on Thursday in Diablo Athletic League play in Concord.

Despite the loss, the Panthers (1-3, 0-2) received solid pitching from Diego Menjivar and Dylan Trammell. Menjivar went four innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out four. Trammell went two innings and allowed one run while fanning two.

Benicia takes on Vanden on Friday in a nonleague game.

Softball

Clayton Valley 9, St. Pat’s 2

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High softball team fell to Clayton Valley 9-2 on Thursday in Diablo Athletic League play.The Bruins fell to 6-7 overall. They are at Acalanes on Saturday.

Boys Soccer Benicia 2, Mt. Diablo 1

The Benicia High boys soccer team edged Mt. Diablo 2-1 on Thursday in Diablo Athletic League play.

The Panthers, who improved to 3-4-1 overall, 3-3-1 in league play, are at Berean Christian on Tuesday.

College baseball DVC 19, Solano 5

The Solano College baseball team fell to host Diablo Valley 19-5 on Thursday.

Victor Vega was 2-for-4 for the Falcons (0-3). Ole Iverson picked up the win for DVC (2-1), and Davis Dunkley suffered the loss.

Napa Valley 11, CC 6

The Napa Valley College baseball team outslugged Contra Costa 11-6 on Thursday in the Storm’s season opener. Bronson Wyman was 2-for-4 with four RBIs for Napa Valley.

Napa features local players like Derrick Robinson Jr. from Bethel, Eric Thomas from American Canyon and Adrien Garcia and Michael Reagan from St. Pat’s.
