St. Pat’s grad Martin records 5 catches, 117 yards for Sac State

St. Patrick-St. Vincent High grad Marshel Martin had five catches for 117 yards and scored a rushing touchdown on Saturday as the No. 19-ranked Sacramento State football team remained unbeaten in the Big Sky Conference with a convincing 44-0 victory over Northern Arizona.

In six games, Martin has 30 catches for 388 yards and has scored four times.

The Hornets are now 5-2 overall and 4-0 in league games. The team has won its last four contests and sits atop the Big Sky standings with Montana State as the only undefeated teams in the league. Northern Arizona in 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Big Sky.

The shutout was only the second in a Big Sky Conference game for Sacramento State since joining the league in 1996. The margin of victory was also the largest in a Big Sky game for the Hornets while NAU was blanked in a conference game for the first time since 2005.

College cross country KEELHAULER­S GRAB 10TH >>

Nora Anastasi and Trevor Hodges were the first to finish for Cal Maritime’s men’s and women’s cross country teams at Saturday’s Warrior Invite, which took place at William Jessup’s on-campus course. In its final tune-up before the Nov. 1 California Pacific Conference championsh­ips, both Keelhauler squads finished 10th.

Finishing second for the women behind Anastasi and her time of 22:03.7 was Karla Gomez, who ran the 5k course in 22:59. Safari Frisell was the next Keelhauler harrier to finish as she posted a time of 23:24.2.

With his time of 28.28.7, Hodges just edged teammate Isaiah Sulivan who crossed the line three seconds later. Completing Cal Maritime’s top three was Nick Yarusso, he completed the 8k course with a time of 28.44.0.

“We love running this race because, traditiona­lly, this is a fast course,” said head coach Jeff Ward. “I like to set up our schedule each year with a hard course right off the bat and work our way towards this meet because this is a fast course which leads to quick times.”

Girls water polo

ST. PAT’S 11, ALBANY 9 >> The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls water polo team beat Albany 11-9 on Thursday in a Tri-County Athletic League contest at Contra Costa College.

Allorie Chua had three goals, two assists and two steals and goalie Michaela Guzman finished with nine saves for the Bruins.

Justine Obenchain had three goals and one steal and Analise Alvarado had two goals, four assists and three steals. Rayne Caragan had two goals, three assists and three steals. Chloe Domingo added a goal and steal. Kali Hall and Vanessa Leon -both had one steal.

Football

PINOLE VALLEY 28, ST. PAT’S 8>> The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High football team fell to Pinole Valley 28-8 on Saturday in a game played at Hercules High.

BrandonSwi­nscoredfro­m 50 yards out for the Bruins, who fell to 3-5 overall.

St. Pat’s travels to Richmond on Friday.

JV Football

ELITE 28, VINTAGE 8 >> The ELITE High Charter junior varsity football team beat Vintage 28-8 on Thursday.

The Eagles were physical all night, dominating the the line of scrimmage on both of sides of the ball. Offensivel­y, they were led by linemen De’Andre Billie and Ka’Maree Green.

Quarterbac­k Maisen McCleod led the Eagles offense with two touchdowns on the ground. Running back Savion McCray bruised his way throughthe­Crushers’defense, as he added a touchdown.

The defense was anchored by defensive tackle Eric White Jr., who was a problem all night in the Crushers backfield. White Jr. ended the night with five solo tackles for loss and a blocked punt.

TheEagles’secondaryw­as led by safety Lemack Bellot, who added his 12th intercepti­on of the season. Linebacker De’Anthony Lokey flew around making plays all night and finished with 12 tackles and a touchdown.

The Eagles will wrap up their inaugural season on Thursday at home against Campolindo at 6 p.m.
