Solano College women’s volleyball team sweeps Yuba

The Solano College women’s volleyball team beat visiting Yuba 25-19, 25-13, 25-12 on Monday as the Falcons improved to 9-0 in the Bay Valley Conference.

Yuba fell into a secondplac­e tie with Marin.

Dani Rydjord led at the net with 11 kills and added three blocks for the Falcons. Sammy Brown distribute­d 10 kills and added 13 digs and four aces.

Kailyn Kaiser led the defense with 14 digs and she added three aces, serving 13-for-14. Anaya Rodriguez chipped in seven kills, seven digs and 15 assists.

Jeryn Baldonado added 16 assists and served 12-for13 with one ace. Chris Rigney Cruz added six kills and two blocks. Mylie Moli chipped in five kills on zero errors and added three blocks.

“We played solid tonight,” said Solano head coach Darla Williams. “A few too many missed serves but we made up for it on our offense and defense. This win was huge because up until last Friday, Yuba’s only loss was us, but Marin beat them on Friday to put then tied for second.”

Solano hosts Napa Valley College on Wednesday.

College cross country CAL MARITIME MEN CAPTURE THIRD AT CAL PAC

CHAMPIONSH­IPS >> For the second season in a row, the Cal Maritime men’s cross country team ended the California Pacific Cross Country Championsh­ips in third place. The Cal Maritime women took sixth at the Woodward Park course in Fresno.

Led by Isaiah Sulivan, who completed the 8k distance with a time of 28:12.8, Trevor Hodges (29:11.2), Nick Yarusso (29:18.9), Stefan Schwiesow (30:33.0) and Kye McKeown (30:54.3) were responsibl­e for collecting the Keelhauler­s’ points as the first five on the team to finish.

Completing Cal Maritime’s list of top seven runners were Harry Bragg (31:47.6) and Andrew Scannell.

Other Cal Maritime men’s cadet-athletes who competed were Cian Cunningham (35:40.9), Reid Zieber (35:41.2), Jacob Gutierrez (35:57.3) and Justin Storrs (36:09.7).

Scoring points for the Keelhauler­s on the women’s side were Nora Anastasi, who finished 26th, by covering the 5k course in 22:48.0, with Karla Gomez (23:27.8) and Safari Frisell (24:39.5) rounding out the top three. Julia Mast (25:37.2) and Tiara Supakit (26:21.0) were the final two runners to collect team points for the Keelhauler­s.
