Listen up, Democrats

-

It’s Election Day, and our elected representatives still aren’t listening to the people who elected them!

As I watch the election returns come in and see that two Democratic gubernatorial candidates are about to lose, it only strengthens the fact that once elected, politicians stop listening to those who elected them and are decision-driven by their massive egos and powerful lobbyists.

I say this because many registered Democrats, out of apathy, stayed home today and did not vote at all. They stayed home because they are frustrated that they elected people that are not listening to them — this is true.

How two Democratic senators, Manchin and Sinema, can hold the entire Democratic senate body hostage is incomprehensible when as slim as it is, the Democrats hold a majority in the senate. Now is the time when the Democratic senate should easily be passing sweeping legislation.

Manchin and Sinema are driven by their massive egos and the powerful lobbyists who bankrolled their campaigns. Manchin and Sinema are not listening to those who elected them. They are not advocating for their constituents’ needs. This is promoted every day through the news media and in turn, we become more frustrated, more apathetic and more complacent. Why go out and vote when your vote doesn’t seem to matter, when your elected officials are not listening?

Terry McAuliffe losing the gubernatorial race in Virginia and Phil Murphy barely wining the gubernatorial race in New Jersey is not because of Donald Trump’s influence, it’s because of Democratic voters staying home and not voting because they are frustrated and angry that they are not being listened to.

My state senator, Dodd, recently held a town hall where constituents could call in and ask questions, but when I called in, I was told I could not make any kind of statement prior to asking my question. They tried to create an artificial atmosphere simulating everything being great even though here in California the unemployment rate is the highest in the country and the back to work rate is the lowest.

They didn’t want to listen to those who elected them. They thought they knew better. As the 2022 midterm elections draw near, if our Democratic elected representatives don’t start listening to us and honestly and sincerely advocate for our needs, the Democratic majority in the senate will vanish and the foundation will be laid for a Republican to win the presidency in 2024.
