June prelim hearing set for Suisun City man, 23, accused of fatal knifing
A 23-year-old man charged with a fatal December 2021 stabbing in Suisun City will face a June preliminary hearing, court records indicate.
Fernando Jose FigueroaMiranda of Suisun City appeared Wednesday in Department 11 to learn of his preliminary hearing date, 9:30 a.m. June 16, but Judge William J. Pendergast also ordered him to return at 8:30 a.m. June 7 for a readiness conference in the Justice Center in Fairfield.
During his formal jail arraignment on Dec. 29, 2021,Figueroa-Miranda, seated at the defense table while listening to a Spanish-language interpreter, heard his defense attorney, Chief Deputy Public Defender Tamani Taylor, enter a not-guilty plea on his behalf in Department 15.
Taylor also told Judge Robert Bowers that her client, who stands 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds, denied all special allegations, including the use of a deadly weapon. Bowers then assigned the case to Department 11.
On Dec. 21, during a previously scheduled jail arraignment, Bowers slowly read portions of the criminal complaint to FigueroaMiranda, as a Spanish-language interpreter, Amanda Irizarry, seated behind him, translated English into Spanish.
Taylor said her client understood what was being read, including the allegation of murder and his right to hire an attorney of his choice, if he could afford it.
At the Dec. 29 arraignment, Chief Deputy District Attorney Paul Sequeira appeared on behalf of the people, although Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn filed the complaint.
Figueroa-Miranda is accused of stabbing a person identified in court documents only by the initials D.V. and was later arrested for the killing.
The Solano County Coroner has declined to identify the victim, saying the name remained under “protective order.”
As previously reported, Suisun City Police Department records indicate that just after 8:35 p.m. on Dec. 16, officers responded to the Almond Acres RV Park in the 4000 block of Olive Avenue for a report of a man on the ground in the parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers found the man, who, they said, had suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead.
Detectives later identified Figueroa-Miranda as a suspect, obtained a warrant, and, around 12:30 p.m. Dec. 17, took him into custody. The Fairfield Police Department and Solano County Sheriff's Office aided in the arrest.
Figueroa-Miranda was booked into Solano County Jail without bail on suspicion of murder and aggravated mayhem. He remains in custody without bail at the Stanton Correctional Facility in Fairfield.
