Joe Henry ‘Sonny’ Driver (1935-2022)

Joe Henry "Sonny" Driver was born Jan. 5, 1935, the sixth child and youngest son of Will and Jennie (Moore) Driver. He was reared in Wynne.

As a child, Joe "Sonny" attended Miles Chapel Church in Wynne. Upon moving to Forrest City during his youth he united with Kynette Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, known today as Kynette United Methodist Church. There he remained a faithful member until his death. Joe (Sonny) served as trustee, superinten­dent, Sunday school teacher, devotional leader, and caretaker of the church grounds.

On Oct. 17, 1953, Joe was united in holy matrimony to Ethel Mae Broadnax.

Joe "Sonny" was a father and uncle to many. His Favorite Song was “Because He Lives.”

Joe “Sonny” was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Jennie; brothers, Eddie, Earnest, Willie Lee and Jessie (June) Driver and sisters, Addie Dee Jones, Beulah Holmes Shy, Jennie Mae Wynne and Dorothy Currie.

Joe leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 68 years, Ethel Mae; two godchildre­n, Monetteria (Joseph) Chism and Ekeila (Duke) Herenton. They raised two nieces, Sandra and Ida Jane Broadnax, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, July 15, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Miles Mortuary

The funeral service for Joe Driver, 87, of Forrest City will be Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 10 a.m., at the Larry S. Bryant Multipurpo­se Center with Rev. Charles Miller delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow at Casteel Cemetery.

Miles Mortuary is in charge of arrangemen­ts.
