Willie W. Phillips (1948-2022)

Mr. Willie W. Phillips was born April 5, 1948, in Kosciusko, Miss., to the late Charles Phillips Sr. and Annie Mae Rogers Phillips.

Willie joined the First Baptist Church in Kosciusko, Miss., at an early age and later in life he joined Fresh Anointing Ministries under the leadership of Dr. Florine Milligan.

He married Mae L. Swanigan April 18, 1992. He lived a vibrant happy life where he worked for more than three decades (38 years) driving a bus for the Greyhound Bus Company. For many years he worked beside his wife, working in St. Francis County as a political advocate and served as city councilman in Madison for several years. He had incomparab­le knowledge of politics and a passion, joy and amazing humor that shined throughout the community.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Charles Phillips Sr. and Annie Mae Rogers Phillips, and his brother, Charles Phillips Jr.

Mr. Willie W. Phillips departed this life on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis.

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Mae L. Phillips of Forrest City; one daughter, Tiffany Phillips of Memphis; two sons he raised and loved as his own, Clarence (Erin) Carr and Claude (Theresa) Carr of Benton; his sister, Ursula Nash of Forrest City; nine grandchild­ren; three great-grandchild­ren; one aunt, Dannie Griffin of Conway, Miss.; a goddaughte­r, Anita Wilson of Forrest City and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service for Willie W. Phillips, 74, of Forrest City, formerly of Madison, will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Fresh Anointing Ministries with Dr. Florine Milligan delivering the eulogy.

Local visitation will be Friday, July 15, 2022, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the church. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 18, 2022, at noon at Kosciusko City Cemetery in Kosciusko, Miss.

Miles Mortuary is in charge of arrangemen­ts.
