Two FCity men hurt in weekend shooting

- Tamara Johnson Publisher

Two Forrest City men were shot over the weekend in incidents during which shots were also reportedly fired at a local police officer.

The Forrest City Police Department reports Jarvis Bolden, 30, 948 Cherry St., and Joseph P. Walker, 25, 732 N. Izard, were injured in the shootings that occurred overnight Friday.

According to the police report, the city’s ShotSpotter system notified the agency of gunshots being fired near 524 E. Davis, 520 S. Izard and 525 S. Washington about 12:36 a.m., Saturday.

Officers responding to the gunshots on South Washington came into contact with Bolden, who was walking north on Washington Street. Bolden told officers he had been shot in the head. While one officer was waiting on an ambulance to arrive at the scene, a different officer reported he was being shot at near Day Street by someone in a vehicle he was attempting to stop.

The officer who stayed with Bolden reported that he transported the shooting victim to Forrest City Medical Center in his patrol unit.

Bolden initially told the officer he was walking in the 400 block of South Washington when a car drove by and someone started shooting at him, adding that he was unable to describe the vehicle and did not have any idea who would shoot at him.

While the officer was at the hospital with Bolden, the second victim, Walker, walked in, saying he had been shot in the back, also near the 400 block of South Washington. Walker told police he was with Bolden at the time of the shooting but they became separated while trying to flee to safety.

Walker told police he would only speak with a county deputy.

During that interview, Walker reportedly told the deputy that he, Bolden and another man, who he only knew by a nickname, were going to a local residence to shoot dice when he said he heard gunshots and realized the vehicle’s driver was shooting before he and Bolden began running away with the car’s driver allegedly following them.

Bolden admitted to police that all there were inside the car outside the house where they

were going to shoot dice when the shots were fired, but would not give officers the name of the alleged shooter.

According to the report, Bolden was shot in the right side of his back and the back of his head. Walker was shot in the right side of his back.

Both victims were transferred to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis for further treatment. Officials at the Med today said Walker has been discharged, but they could not find Bolden in the system.

An arrest has yet not been reported, and the investigation into the shootings is continuing.
