Lady Mustangs begin district tourney play today at Trumann

The 4A-3 conference boys and girls district tournament began play on Monday at Trumann.

The tournament will decide the final four teams which will advance to next week's Class 4A East regional tournament.

In a first round boys game played Monday, Pocahontas slipped past Jonesboro Westside 72-71, while ninth-seeded Trumann held on to take a twopoint 37-35 win over eighthseed­ed Pocahontas in the girls play-in first round game.

Pocahontas will host Southside Batesville today in the boys' tournament's secondroun­d, while the Trumann girls will move forward to face fifthseede­d Forrest City in a 4 p.m. game today.

Wynne, seeded sixth in the girls bracket, will face seventhsee­ded Blythevill­e.

The Forrest City-Trumann winner returns on Thursday to play fourth-seeded Jonesboro Westside while the Wynne-Blythevill­e winner will take on third-seeded Highland.

In the boy's district bracket, the Mustangs, seeded third, will open play on Thursday, when they take on ether the sixth or seventh seeded team, which will be determined today.

In the 2A-6 district tournament boys game played Monday at Carlisle, McCrory took on KIPP Delta and Des Arc played Hazen.

In the girl's side of the district tournament bracket, KIPP Delta will play Marianna today, while Palestine-Wheatley will face the McCrory-KIPP Delta winner, and the host team Carlisle faces the Des Arc-Hazen winner.

In the first-round girls' side of the bracket, KIPP Delta played Marianna, but no final score was available.

Today, Carlisle takes on Palestine-Wheatley and Barton will play the KIPP Delta-Marianna winner.
