Nothing easy for FCity softball, baseball teams

-

Nothing has been easy for the Forrest City Mustangs through the first four baseball games of the season.

Playing last week, the Mustangs fell 23-0 to Pocahontas and 0-4 for the season.

Dakwon Scott started the game for the Mustangs, allowing 15 hits and 22 runs over two innings, striking out two.

The Mustangs have given up 72 runs through the first four games, Hot Springs, Little Rock Central, Little Rock Mills and Pocahontas, while scoring just four of their own.

Frank Crutcher threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Pocahontas racked up 18 hits in the game and came through with 16 stolen bases.

Pocahontas opened with an eight run first inning and followed that with a nine run second inning and an eight run third, coming through with 18 hits while holding the Mustangs scoreless and hitless.

Forrest City is scheduled to play at Southside Batesville today in a 4A-3 conference game and will host Brinkley on Tuesday.

The Forrest City Lady Mustangs are also scheduled to play a 4A-3 conference game today at Batesville Southside.

The Lady Mustangs have played just two games so far this season, having had two games rained out.

The Lady Mustangs opened with a 15-0 loss to Barton and followed that with a 22-0 loss to Pocahontas.

"Our defense is decent," head coach Deysha Gibson said. "However, we have a lot of work to do with our pitching staff. We are walking far too many batters. During the district games, we walked in 15 runs and allowed a grand slam home run.

"We are a very young team with six returning players from a year ago with a brand-new squad of 15 girls, one of them being our only senior, a first timer."

The Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots (3-0) are scheduled to host England today and make the road trip to McCrory on Thursday.

The Patriots baseball team is coming off a 10-0 loss to North Little Rock last week at Burns Park.

"They (NLR) had a couple of really good pitchers," P-W head coach Kevin Whitson said, "Once they took a 6-0 lead, we were unable to get a strike call."

The Patriots are scheduled to play a home game today and Tuesday, weather permitting.

The Forrest City Mustang track teams are scheduled to compete today at the Joe Nooner Invitational Meet held at West Memphis.
