FC Mustangs let game slip away; Brinkley deals team sixth straight loss

Forrest City Mustangs watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 18-7 loss to Brinkley in a prep baseball game played on Tuesday. The Mustangs collected nine hits and Brinkley had six in the highscorin­g affair, leaving the Mustangs at 0-6 for the still young season.

Brinkley was able to push five runs across the plate in the first inning and then held the Mustangs to just two runs in the bottom of the first to take a quick 5-2 lead. Brinkley added a single run in the second inning and three more in the third to push their lead to 9-2.

A five-run fourth inning all but put the game away for the Tigers, who went on to plate four security runs in the sixth, holding the Mustangs to five runs over the final four innings.

Daylon Washington and Octavion Washington accounted for three of the Forrest City runs on four hits.

Elijah Havner went six innings for the Tigers, allowing seven runs on nine hits and striking out 12. Dakwon Scott took the pitching loss for Forrest City, giving up two hits and six runs over two and a third innings, striking out six.

The Mustangs scattered nine hits in the game. Tamarian Burks and both Washington's, had two hits to lead Forrest City.

Forrest City Mustangs Varsity stole 14 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Washington led the way with five.

The Palestine-Wheatley Patriots got a four-inning effort from pitcher Jaxon Estes Monday, to secure an 11-1 win over England.

Brody Bass was 3 for 3 at the plate while Estes gave up just one run and had nine strikeouts.

P-W is scheduled to play at Forrest City today, weather permitting and at McCrory on Friday.

The Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots lost a close game to McCrory on Wednesday, falling 9-6 after taking an early 2-0 lead. McCrory battled back to lead 4-2, 7-3 and finally 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth, before plating the final two game winning runs.

Rhealee McGraw, 3 for 4 at the plate for P-W had a tworun home run in the late innings for the Lady Patriots.

McCrory today before beginning play Friday at the Bearcat Blast Brookland hosted tournament scheduled through Saturday. P-W will play 7:30 Friday night in a first round game and win or lose will play a 2:30 game on Saturday and again at 5:30. The Blast will field close to 50 teams.
