Westside sweeps Forrest City in 4A-3 conference twinbill

Marcus Britt Jr. and Melvin Shaw Jr. each poured in 16 points for Forrest City, but came away just short, losing to Westside 75-63 Thursday in a 4A-3 conference game played at Westside.

Britt and Shaw were the only two Mustangs to hit double digit scoring. O'neal Winfrey added nine points for the Forrest City cause, while three other players combined for just 10 points.

Westside’s Micah Dew and Weston Honeycutt combined for 23 points in the fourth quarter and 54 for the game helping the Warriors pull away for the conference win.

Westside (9-1, 4-0 conference) outscored Forrest City 26-16 in the final period to clinch its sixth consecutiv­e victory.

The Warriors led 20-18 after the first quarter, 33-31 at halftime and 49-47 after the third quarter.

Dew scored 29 points to lead the Warriors, including 12 in the fourth quarter. Honeycutt scored 11 of his 25 points in the final period.

Thursday's loss to Westside was the Mustangs fourth consecutiv­e since two losses at the Farmington Classic and a conference loss to Brookland.

Forrest City will host Highland tonight in 4A-3 conference action at Dwight Lofton Mustang Arena and will open play on Thursday, Dec. 28 at the 76th edition of the NEA Tournament.

The Mustangs, Division 1 tournament champs from a year ago, earned a first-round bye into this year's NEA and the No. 2 seed as well and will face the Trumann-Tuckerman winner 3 p.m.

Forrest City won the Westside Warriors junior boys’ game 53-45.

••••• Dekylon Arnold produced a triple-double of 26 points, 10 assists and 10 steals Thursday as Marianna Lee rolled past Dermott 75-56 in senior boys’ basketball at the Dumas Classic.

Jamari Anthony added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Trojans (5-4). Quincy Allen scored 13 points and LeSean Gamble chipped in with 11 points and three steals.

Smith scored points Friday night to lead Nettleton to a 61-46 victory over Brookland in senior boys’ basketball.

Smith scored his first nine points in the second quarter to ignite the Raiders, who outscored the Bearcats 20-11 in the period for a 29-20 halftime lead. Smith put up seven more points in the third quarter, which ended with Nettleton leading 46-38, and hit a three pointer in the final period,

De’Shun Jackson added 15 points, Kobe Jamison 13 and Curtez Smith eight as the Raiders (7-4) stopped a threegame losing streak from their trip to Rogers for the Arvest Hoopfest.

Tyler Parham scored 23 points to lead Brookland (8-2), including a 16 point third quarter. Cole Kirby also finished in double figures for the Bearcats with 10 points.

Nettleton rolled to a 43-28 victory in the junior boys’ game, led by Te’Jay Daley with 13 points.

••••• Trumann outscored Pocahontas 15-5 in the fourth quarter Thursday to seal a 5438 victory in 4A-3 conference senior boys’ basketball.

Six players scored from six to 13 points for the Wildcats (1-6, 1-3 conference). Cobey Riddle scored 13 points to lead Trumann, while Gavin Greenwell added 12 and Luke Bishop and Coda Cameron scored eight each.

Mason Priest scored 11 points, D.J. Coffey 10 and Tid Kios nine for Pocahontas.

Trumann led 17-8 after the first quarter, 24-18 at halftime and 39-33 at the end of three quarters.

Pocahontas won the junior boys’ game 41-34 and the seventh-grade game 42-15.

••••• Paragould held off Marmaduke for a 66-59 victory Thursday in senior boys’ basketball.

The Rams (4-6) led 19-17 after the first quarter and 3627 at halftime. Marmaduke cut a point off its deficit in the third quarter, trailing 49-41 at the end of the period.

Jessie Beliew scored 14 points to lead four Paragould players in double figures. Nate Brittingha­m added 12 points, Cole Chipman 11 and Riccardo

Casagrande 10.

John McAlister scored 14 points, Blake Gipson 13 and Ashton Lucy 12 for Marmaduke (10-9).

Bay outlasted Earle for a 7875 double-overtime victory in 2A-3 conference senior boys’ basketball Friday night.

Earle led 33-28 at halftime, only to see Bay rally for a 4847 lead at the end of the third quarter. The teams were tied at 62 to end regulation and at 70 to end the first overtime.

Justin Brannen and Evan Stotts paced Bay (13-9, 3-1 conference) with 19 points each. Drew Long added 18 points and Kaden Hartley 10 for the Yellowjack­ets.

Jaylen Robinson scored 24 points, Ta’ron Hurst 23 and Joseph McVay 14 for Earle.

••••• Greene County Tech’s Boston Goodman scored 10 of his team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter Friday as the Eagles rallied for a 55-49 victory over Flippin in senior boys’ basketball.

Kayden King hit two of his three 3-pointers in the final period and added nine points for the Eagles (6-5). Noah Oswalt and Landon Stuart finished in double figures for GCT with 12 and 10 points, respective­ly, while Parker Harris added nine points.

The teams were tied at 22 at halftime and Flippin (14-6) led 34-31 after the third quarter. Alexander Glenn scored 17 points and Rilyn Robins added 14 for the Bobcats.

Hoxie edged Walnut Ridge 65-64 in overtime Friday night in 3A-2 conference senior boys’ basketball.

Kyler Lenderman scored a game-high 29 points to lead Hoxie (4-3, 3-1 conference). Jake Jones added 15 points for the Mustangs.

Rex Tedder led Walnut Ridge (6-3, 2-2 conference) with 23 points. Davis Callahan added 17 points for the Bobcats.

Rex Farmer scored 22 points Friday night as Manila defeated Trumann 74-58 in senior boys’ basketball at the Luxora Classic.

Carson Baltimore added 21 points and Luke Kirk finished with 16 for the Lions (6-6).
