First meet of the year shows solid effort by both FC teams

Forrest City stayed as long as the weather allowed both track teams to do so last Thursday competing along with 35 other schools in the first track meet of the 2024 season, the Peco Relays held in Pocahontas.

The meet doubled down with the senior boys and girls' teams from each of the schools registered.

Unfortunat­ely, meet officials and teams were unable to complete the meet when a round of thundersto­rms rolled into the area cutting the meet short.

The schools were able to get through the majority of the meet but were not able to log enough stats to declare definitive winners on either side of the meet.

Unofficial­ly the Forrest City boys finished with 67 points while the girls put up 92 points.

Beginning with the sprints, Forrest City notched 16, top 10 finishes on the boy's side of the meet, while the girls collected 17, top 10 finishes, which included five first-place medals.

The Forrest City boys charted one first-place medal in the 300hurdles by Kyman Lee.

The Mustangs finished second, third and fifth in three of the relay races.

Beginning with the 100-meter dash, Forrest City's Nehemiah Stone ran eighth in a time of 11.88, while teammate William Graham ran 21st finishing out of the points.

Marked Tree's Terry Hodges won the 200-meter dash breaking the tape at 22.73, while Forrest City's Kyman Lee was just 16 seconds behind finishing second with a time of 22.89. Stone ran ninth.

In the boys 400-meter, Forrest City finished third and fourth with Darian Jordan and Monsieur Gaines. Rivercrest took first in a time of 52.61.

Derrick Burton ran fifth in the boys 800-meter run finishing in a time of 2:26.50, while West Memphis took first and second place and Valley View finished third and ninth.

Burton ran fourth in the mile behind Valley View's first and second place finish and a thirdplace finish by West Memphis.

The Mustangs did compete in the two-mile run.

In the 110-hurdles, Williams took second and Forrest City's Keelan Brisber ran eighth.

Lee won the 300-hurdles with Williams taking third and Valley View squeezing in for second place.

In the three relay events, the Mustangs ran first in the twomile, third in the 400-meter and second in the 800-meter.

Lee finished second in the high jump clearing the bar at 5'10", while Earle finished first with a six-foot effort.

Forrest City did not compete in the boy's long jump or the discus and did not place in the shot put.

The Lady Mustangs started quickly at the Peco Relays, getting a first place from junior Chandon Hester in the 100-meter sprint, finishing in a time of 13.35. Forrest City senior Nia Williams ran third posting a 13.57 finish time.

Williams returned to win the 200-meter sprint in 28.10, with Hester running second in a time of 28.47. Valley View took third and fourth in the 200.

Williams continued her assault on the event, running to a third-place finish in the 400meter run with Hester coming back in fifth place. West Memphis won the event and placed second as well.

Senior Charnelle Hoof ran to a fourth-place finish in the 800meter run posting a time of 2:46.07, followed by Forrest City junior Nevaeh McRae breaking the tape for 11th place. Brookland won the event in a time of just over 2:31.

In the long-distance runs, Hoof finished fourth in the mile run with a time of 6:27.69 while Forrest City sophomore Kimiyia Wilson ran ninth.

Brookland took first in the event while Valley View runners finished second and third.

Vallev View won the two-mile run while Forrest City did not compete in the race.

Courtney Bean gave the Lady Mustangs a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles followed by Serenity Powell in 11th place. Pocahontas entries finished first, third and fifth in the event.

Bean ran sixth in the 300meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.08, while Powell ran seventh. Valley View took first place, with a blistering time of 48.76.
