FCity track teams take third, fourth at Wellman Relays

After losing their home track meet to weather last week, the Forrest City track teams moved on to run another day.

That other day was last Tuesday, when Forrest City, originally scheduled to be part of the Marion Patriot Meet, reversed that decision to run in the Senior Wellman Relays in Pocahontas, joining a field or more than 40 high school.

Turns out, it was the right decision for the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs.

Forrest City finished fourth in the overall boy's standings while the Lady Mustangs finished third behind first place Mountain View and runner-up Brookland.

The Lady Mustangs finished with 14 top 10 finishes, which included a pair of first place medals, while the Forrest City boys brought home 10 top 10 finishes including one first place.

Both teams have just two regular season meets remaining on their schedule before moving into conference on April 23, back at Pocahontas and hopefully state, also set for Pocahontas.

The Meet of Champs is scheduled for May 8 at Lake Hamilton.

At the Wellman Relays Thursday, the Lady Mustangs opened with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash nu Chandon Hester who broke the tape in 13.11 behind first place Salem. Nia Williams ran fifth in the event.

Hester gave the Lady Mustangs another second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing behind, once again Salem. Nia Williams ran fourth in the 200 and returned to take fifth place in the 400-meter with Hester running 12th.

Charnelle Hoof, Forrest City's just signed senior to a Waco Texas Junior College, gave the Lady Mustangs a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter distance run. Teammate Adrianna Carter ran 10th in the distance race.

The Lady Mustangs did not participat­e in the mile or twomile events.

Courtney Bean posted an 11place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and Alanah Bures ran 14th. Bean ran seventh in the 300-meter hurdles.

Forrest City took first in the 400-meter relay race and in the 800-meter relay, before finishing third in the mile relay and second in the two-mile relay.

In the field events, Hoof collected a fourth-place finish in the high jump finals while Williams finished fifth in the long jump. Burkes nailed a ninth-place finish in the triple jump.

••••• Moving to the boys side of the meet, Forrest City opened with a second-place finish in the 100meter dash from Nehemiah Stone. Monsieur Gaines ran fourth in the 200-meter dash behind Heber Springs, Searcy and Gosnell, while Stone ran ninth. Gaines finished third in the 400-meter race, finishing just behind Searcy and Southside Batesville, while Kyman Lee ran to a 16th place finish.

The Mustangs did not compete in the 800-meter distance run but returned to take a fifth-place finish by Derrick Burton in the mile run. Forrest City did not compete in the twomile distance race.

In the hurdles, Keelan Brisber ran 11th in the 110-meter event, while Kylin Williams secured a 13th place finish in the 300meter hurdles.

The Mustangs won the 400meter relay, finished second in the 800-meter relay and ninth in the two-mile relay. the boys did not compete in the mile relay.

Forrest City bypassed the high jump and long jump field events but returned to the triple jump finals with a fourth-place finish by Brisber. Kevin Young competed in the shot-put event finishing 12th overall.

Next up for the Forrest City teams, a trip to Marion on Thursday, April 18 for the Little Rock Mills Relays and a visit to Heber Springs on Friday, April 19, for the Last Chance Relays.

The conference meet will be held Tuesday, April 23.
