ISLAND JOURNAL
Tuesday
Finally— mangrove honey season! Is there anything better?
Wednesday
Dreamed I was on Captiva. It was night, it was deserted, and I was riding my bicycle around in the moonlight in my pajamas.
Friday
Tried my first Key lime gimlet. Note to self: Stick to regular limes.
Sunday
Z& A boated down, then stuck around after church. Then we all made a few confessions after a few hours at the Flash.
Monday
November is truly the best- kept secret of the islands.
Thursday
Debating ordering a turkey from Bailey’s or going out. Have yet to cook a turkey at home, and see no need to break from tradition now.
Saturday
Played tennis with the nicest folks ... from the Canaries!
Sunday
Invited some Wisconsin friends down over the holidays. They are worked up about wearing shorts on Christmas.
Tuesday
Actually saw two raccoons making a high- five motion at a dumpster tonight.
Wednesday
Still laughing about those raccoons. ;-)
Friday
Debating who might get some of my homemade mango chips for Christmas. I might not love anyone that much.
Sunday
Rumor has it that a pop star is on Captiva, but reports are conflicting as to whom.
Monday
It’s so perfect out; I’m wishing I had a Boston Whaler and could just disappear for a few hours.
Tuesday
Was on Periwinkle Way, windows down, and all the little ding- a- ling sounds from happy cyclists put me in a good mood.
Thursday
Happy Hour at Casa Ybel pool. Ahhhh.
Friday
Happy Hour at Tweenies pool. Is it wrong to do this every day?
Saturday
Going for a trifecta: Spent the afternoon at Sanibel Harbour Resort pool bar. Ha!
Sunday
On the wagon. Watching Nemo chase lizards.
Tuesday
Should be about time for white pelicans to show up. Still remember the year they all floated deep into Dinkins Bayou. Magic!
Monday
Where are our otters? Was it something we said?
Friday
Early tennis with M& S. Some pretty funny groans were coming from the next court.
Saturday
Dear Matlacha, After all these years, I’m still curious: Why do you pronounce your name like that?
Wednesday
Met D, M and R for a big breakfast at Sanibel Café. Solved all the world’s problems.
Friday
S and I threw on sweaters and boated up to Cabbage Key for a holiday stone crab feast. Fun day!
