Times of the Islands

ISLAND JOURNAL

-

Thursday

Could it be? A nip in the air. Hard to remember the last time I had to dig down in my closet for a sweater.

Friday

Turns out that nip in the air was a passing fancy. Too soon to break out the hot chocolate.

Wednesday

Hard to believe SCCF is celebrating its 50th anniversary. That was an amazing group who saw the future and took steps to save the island so many years ago.

Sunday

Mouth is watering this afternoon. It’s Taste of the Islands time!

Tuesday

Errands in the big city today. Best get them done before all the snowbirds come in for a landing. More arriving every day.

Thursday

Walking along the beach, head down, minding my own business this evening, when I walked right into a giant sand sculpture of an octopus. Someone’s practicing for the upcoming contest on Fort Myers Beach.

Sunday

OK, eating light this month, thinking ahead to Thanksgiving. Gotta have turkey, but how about some tropical sides. We did freeze some mango slices last summer. Salsa, anyone?

Thursday

Tennis match today with M. Had to remind myself to stay in good cheer after my forehand went astray. Must be my racquet—hint, hint ...

Saturday

J and M insisted on a boating excursion today. Across the bay for a little lunch on Pine Island. Who am I to resist?

Thursday

Still a few scars left on the island from Irma, but we sure have a lot of blessings to count after this hurricane season.

Friday

So much to choose from for holiday entertainment this coming season, and we don’t have to go far—carols at Chapel by the Sea, holiday concert at BIG ARTS, golfcart parade on Captiva … the list goes on.

Monday

Time to decompress from a crazy busy weekend. What could be better than a yoga session on the beach? Meeting E for a little downward dog at sunset.

Thursday

Oh my gosh, the island is busy. I’m opting to stay home and repot all my orchids. They deserve it after weathering this crazy storm season.

Friday

Passed a woman on the bike path today with the biggest smile on her face. Happiness is contagious. Oh, and she was wearing reindeer antlers.

Sunday

Is it possible that 2018 is almost here? Of course, the best place to start the new year is—where else?— on the beach with a fluffy blanket, a little Champagne and the ones you love.
