FORT SMITH - James Michael Sharum, Jr., of Fort Smith, AR, age 89, passed away on Sunday, October 01, 2023. He was born Feb. 20, 1934 to the late J. Mike and Katherine (Thron) Sharum.

James was a Vietnam veteran, served in the Navy and Army as a medic, & retired after 22 years. He was an avid outdoorsma­n who loved to hunt and fish. He was also a devout Catholic who believed in being of service to others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Mike & Katherine Sharum, his beloved wife and mother of his children, Thelma P. Sharum, his daughter, Colette Kinsey, her husband Patrick, and their daughter, Michelle, two brothers, Urban and Hugh Sharum, and his beloved wife, with whom he shared his twilight years, Pauline McNeill Sharum.

James is survived by his son Roger Sharum and daughter Veronica Thresher and her husband David, all of Fort Smith. He leaves behind a loving legacy of 7 grandchild­ren: Joseph (Meredith) Sharum, Michael (Amanda) Sharum, Amanda (Josh) Hermosillo, Seth (Heather) Sharum, Bradley, Skyler, and Samantha Glanovsky, 9 great grandchild­ren: Joseph (Chloe) Sharum Jr.,Jaden (Trent) Milgrim, Elisha and Gideon Sharum, Caleb and Dallas Sharum, Kiley and Jacob Hermosillo, and Dakota Sharum, and 1 great great grandchild: Mila Jean Milgrim. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Sharum of Paris, AR, sister Kay (Dennis) Popevis of Monrovia, MD, aunt, Sister Louise Sharum of New Blaine, AR, and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and step children and grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rosary Service to start immediatel­y after the visitation, at 6:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Thursday, October 19, 2023 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with interment to follow with military honors, at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
