Work by two artists featured at Trinidad gallery
Trinidad Art Gallery is featuring two members, painter Annie Reid and mosaic/glass artist Barbara Wright, this month.
The gallery is open with COVID-19 virus precautions in place. Just like old times, visitors will be greeted by a gallery member, but for now all visitors and members are required to wear face masks.
Reid’s display of oils and prints is titled “Sheltered in Place.” Central to the exhibit is “When Otters Came Healing,” a large print on heavy acid-free watercolor paper. She worked with Joseph Wilhelm of Meridian Fine Art to capture a limited edition series from her digital painting.
Reid began working in digital painting in the early 1990s. Her paintings evolve from individual brushstrokes in much the same manner as traditional oils.
Also included in this exhibit are several of Reid’s small oils on linen seascapes, which she painted on location a short distance from her studio. More of her work can be seen at www.anniereid.com.
Wright creates colorful mosaics in a great variety of forms, including wall hangings, mirrors, clocks and vases. Her moderately-sized pieces are theme-based designs and her large wall pieces encompass a muralstyle story. She uses an array of materials to enrich the glass with her rich, complex designs: shells, millefiore, buttons, beads of all sizes and shapes, and a rich assortment of shiny objects find their way into the integrated color scheme that Wright is known for. Her mosaic pieces have been shown in galleries and shows throughout Northern California, and she often works on commissions.
Wright also works with dichroic glass, a technique of heating shards of glass in a kiln until it fuses. This newest technique in glass work was created accidentally by staff in the NASA program when they were trying to filter out the bands of colors of the stars. Wright uses it to make pendants, earrings, and barrettes, and her experience with mosaics enriches her fused glass compositions.
