Food for People set to host free distributions
In response to the fire evacuations and road closures in Southern Humboldt, Food for People has rescheduled free produce distributions in Redway and Garberville for this Tuesday.
Those who lost food or are in need of assistance can access free fresh produce. The free produce distributions will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Garberville Presbyterian Church (437 Maple Lane) and from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Redway Baptist Church (553 Redway Drive). In Redway, it will be a drive-through distribution; cars are asked to enter via Empire Drive. Participants are asked to make room in vehicles — volunteers will load produce directly into the trunk. The Garberville distribution is a walk-up event; participants are asked to wear face masks and maintain six-feet social distancing.
Food for People, the food bank for Humboldt County, operates a network of countywide pantries and food distribution programs to help those experiencing hunger and instability. All regular distributions programs remain operational though some may become fluid as Food for People addresses evolving needs and challenges. For those looking to help, financial donations are currently the best way to support hunger relief in the community. Those interested in volunteering can fill out the Volunteer Response Team form. Visit www.foodforpeople. org to help.
