Hasty called up, Coleman to injured reserve

- By Cam Inman

JaMycal Hasty’s speed and shifty moves wowed throughout 49ers training camp, and although that did not immediately earn him a spot on their roster, he is on it now.

The 49ers called up Hasty, an undrafted rookie from Baylor, on Saturday from their practice squad to boost running back depth against the host New York Giants on Sunday.

Running back Tevin Coleman went on injured reserve with a knee sprain, keeping him out at least the next three games. The 49ers also will be without starter Raheem Mostert (knee sprain), so Jerick McKinnon’s workload should increase, along with Jeff Wilson Jr.’s power rushes and Hasty’s change-ofpace speed.

In two other moves Saturday, the 49ers promoted center Hronnis Grasu from the practice squad — he takes Coleman’s

roster spot — and also called up linebacker Joe Walker from the practice squad. Hasty (No. 38) and Walker (No. 49) revert to the practice squad Monday.

Also out for the 49ers are quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), tight end George Kittle (knee), defensive end Dee Ford (back) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quadriceps).

Nick Mullens will start in place of Garoppolo, who sustained an ankle sprain when sacked by Quinnen Williams; Henry Anderson did not get fined for landing on Garoppolo at the end of the play, a league source said.

The 49ers lost defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas to season-ending knee injuries in last Sunday’s 31-13 win over the New York Jets. Expected to come off injured reserve in the next couple weeks are wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Richie James, and cornerback Richard Sherman.
